7 Compelling Reasons We Should All Practice Gratitude Daily
With it being the National Week of Gratitude it was only fitting to carry out seven reasons why we should be thankful. It’s something that can be abandoned in the modern world, but when we take time to express our gratitude we feel the benefits.
Not only should we be grateful to others and our environment in an attempt to pay them back or to show our thanks, but also we personally gain from this emotion. There’s scientific proof of us being able to enjoy mental and physical benefits from being grateful.
1. Cultivating Morning Gratitude: Transform Your Day with a Simple Mindset Shift
Using a form of gratitude as your mantra in the morning can be very beneficial, it can change the whole day. As we endure that groggy feeling first thing in the morning and start worrying about a big meeting or having to rush around doing chores before work, stop and think about all of the positive things in your life. As well as being thankful for the complex aspects, such as your high work position or material you own, also think about something so simple that you should be thankful for, such as eating each day and being able to enjoy clean water. This thought process is healthy for our minds and will improve your day time ten, try it and find out how good this attitude can be.
2. Gratitude as a Stress-Buster: Shifting Focus for Improved Well-Being
Stress has all types of detrimental effects on our overall health and it can drive you insane. From the moment we wake up in the morning until we go to bed at night. Did we finish everything at work? Are the children okay? How will we afford to pay the bills? There are many problems we face that are impossible to ignore and are legitimate issues and stresses, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a minute to be thankful. When we do this it shifts our focus and successively lowers our stress levels.
3. Gaining Perspective: Overcoming Obstacles Through Realistic Thinking
In thinking this way it really puts our sufferings into perspective, we think of the all the reasons that we are lucky and realise that some people aren’t so lucky. A lot of our problems can then be solved with a wiser decision when we look at things realistically and don’t amplify the obstacles that we face on a daily basis.
4. The Surprising Link: Gratitude's Impact on Physical Health
Believe it or not, being grateful can directly impact our physical health. This is brilliant, just by showing and feeling gratitude it can alter the physiology of our bodies and in-turn help us become physically healthier. Those who are grateful experience less aches and pains. A 2012 study in Personality and Individual Differences revealed how those who express gratitude are more likely to exercise and get regular health checks.
5. The Interplay of Hormones, Stress, and Sleep: A Vital Connection
Hormone regulation is deeply intertwined with our sleeping patterns and quality of sleep. But it’s not the only aspect of our body that is closely connected to sleep, by stressing we can find it hard to enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep. When we think of things we are grateful for, we are able to lower our stress hormone and get to sleep easier.
6. Gratitude's Transformative Power: Insights from the University of Kentucky Study
