What Does EACH Do?
East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) provides care for children and young people who have life-threatening conditions and offers practical and emotional support to families and across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. The charity has three hospices - Milton, near Cambridge, The Treehouse, in Ipswich, and The Nook, near Norwich, which was opened by Royal Patron The Princess of Wales (then The Duchess of Cambridge), in November 2019.
EACH is widely considered to be a leader in the field of children's hospice care, and has a longstanding reputation for excellence, delivering exceptionally high levels of care to every child, young person and family in need.
EACH is reliant on public backing in order to provides their essential, specialist medical and emotional support completely free of charge. It is there for families in their hour of need – a lifeline at the most unimaginably hard times – and families who use the services feel safe and comfortable, allowing them to spend precious time together and create memories that last forever. This is thanks to the amazing work, knowledge and expertise of the specialist team, including nurses, counsellors, care assistants, play specialists, music therapists, art therapists, physiotherapists and occupational therapists.
EACH offers families flexibility and control over where they receive their care and support and its family-centred approach includes specialist nursing care, symptom management support, short breaks, wellbeing activities, therapies, care at end of life, bereavement support and counselling and volunteer services in the family home.
In addition to children and parents/carers, EACH is also there for brothers, sisters, grandparents and sometimes friends. It runs regular sibling days in the school holidays to allow children with similar circumstances to make friends and spend time together.
How Are EACH Funded?
EACH relies on voluntary donations for the majority of its income and this year (2023) needs to raise £6.7 million from fundraising and £7.8 million in income from
its 47 shops. These are scattered across the four counties and there is also a busy Retail Distribution Centre, in Thetford.
In terms of fundraising, this will only happen with public support and a key part of this is the support received from corporate friends and supporters.
Children’s hospices like EACH receive just 16% of its total income from statutory sources. This is significantly less than adult hospices.

Last year’s show raised a staggering £105,000.
In the past, other stars to have taken to the stage include Al Murray, Lee Mack, Eddie Izzard, Johnny Vegas, Stephen Fry, Clive Anderson and Ruthie Henshall. Happy Christmas Ipswich scooped a coveted prize in the Event/Campaign of the Year category at the Chartered Institute of Fundraising East Anglia Awards, in June.
