Who Are RSVP?
RSVP stands as a beacon of hope for survivors of sexual violence and abuse. Founded in 1978, we are the sole rape crisis center serving Birmingham and Solihull, a testament to our unwavering commitment to supporting individuals who have endured unimaginable trauma. Our mission is clear: to empower survivors to reclaim their power, heal from their experiences, and build a future brimming with hope and confidence.
We understand the devastating impact of sexual violence and abuse. Survivors often face a multitude of challenges, including social isolation, emotional and physical trauma, and a deep struggle to rebuild trust in others. RSVP stands firmly against these challenges, offering a safe haven – a space free from judgment where survivors can find solace, support, and the tools they need to begin their healing journey.
At the core of our philosophy lies a trauma-informed approach. We actively listen to survivors' experiences with respect and empathy. We believe in empowering them to make informed decisions about their healing journey, offering guidance and support without ever dictating the path.
RSVP Support Services
RSVP offers a comprehensive suite of services designed to meet the diverse needs of survivors:
● Individual Counseling: Our team of qualified counselors provides confidential support for adults and children who have experienced sexual violence and abuse. We offer flexible scheduling options, with sessions available in-person, by phone, or online, catering to individual needs and preferences.
● Outreach Services: We recognize that not everyone can easily access our services. RSVP brings support directly to survivors in various Birmingham and Solihull communities. This outreach program ensures that geographical barriers do not prevent individuals from receiving the vital support they deserve.
● Advocacy Services: Navigating the legal system and accessing healthcare services can be overwhelming after experiencing sexual violence. Our dedicated advocates provide emotional and practical support, empowering survivors throughout the criminal justice process and ensuring they receive the necessary medical care.
● Specialist Support Groups: RSVP understands the importance of peer connection and shared experiences. We offer tailored support groups for specific populations, including
LGBTQ+ survivors, sex workers, and women seeking asylum who have experienced sexual violence. These groups provide a safe space for survivors to connect with others who understand their struggles, fostering a sense of belonging and reducing feelings of isolation.
● Helpline and Web Chat: We understand that the need for support can arise at any time. Our helpline and web chat service, staffed by trained volunteers, provide immediate support and a listening ear to survivors in crisis.
● Self-Help Resources: In addition to our core services, RSVP offers a wealth of online resources for survivors, including informative articles, self-care tips, and coping strategies. We also maintain a dedicated website for children and young people, providing age-appropriate information and resources.
● Social Activities: Social isolation can be a significant consequence of sexual violence. RSVP combats this by facilitating support groups and social events. These activities create opportunities for survivors to connect, build friendships, and feel a sense of community.
The strength of RSVP lies not just in the services we offer, but also in the expertise of our team. Many members of our staff have lived experience of sexual violence and abuse. This lived experience allows them to connect with survivors on a profound level and ensures that survivors' voices are heard and reflected throughout the organization.
We are unwavering in our fight against victim-blaming attitudes. RSVP actively challenges these harmful beliefs and advocates for the rights of survivors. We believe that everyone deserves to live a life free from fear and violation. Therefore, we offer holistic support to adults and children who have experienced sexual violence and abuse.
Healing from sexual violence and abuse is a journey, not a destination. RSVP is here to walk alongside survivors every step of the way. With compassion, respect, and a commitment to empowerment, we strive to create a future where survivors can thrive.
