Who are the UK Boston Terrier Rescue?
The UK Boston Terrier Rescue, is a registered charity (no 1163435), founded in 2014. They rescue, rehabilitate and rehome Boston Terriers, Boston Terrier Crosses and on occasion, small Brachycephalic Breeds like French Bulldogs and Pugs.
They are run entirely by volunteers, who work to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome Boston Terriers across the UK.
They have no physical premises, instead all of their dogs are in foster homes before they are matched with a family and find their forever home.
What do the UK Boston Terrier Rescue do?
They aim to raise awareness on the proper care of Boston Terriers and the treatment of the various health issues they can suffer from. Unfortunately, many brachycephalic dog breeds (breeds with shortened snouts such as Bulldogs, Pugs and Boston Terrriers) often have health issues such as breathing difficulties, luxating patellas, birthing problems, sensitivity to allergies and eye problems. This means that owners are often not aware of the proper care, veterinary expense and medical support that goes into owning a brachycephalic breed.
UK Boston Terrier Rescue understands that there are people who, for a variety of reasons, are no longer able to keep their Boston Terrier . The rescue ensures that all surrendered dogs are assessed, fostered and adopted to a vetted home and offered lifelong rescue backup.
Vet Checks: They ensure that all surrendered dogs are vet checked, they worm, flea, vaccinate, microchip and neuter all dogs before rehoming. Where a dog may be too young to be neutered, a neuter contract is required.
Breeders Scheme: They also offer a rehoming service for breeders of Boston Terriers, so that they can safely rehome their older dogs or brood girls. This ensures that these go to appropriate, vetted homes.
Foster and Adoption Process: All dogs are matched to Foster and Adoption homes, making sure they have the right fit for both dog and family. They use behaviourists (practising positive training methods) to assess and train dogs in their care who are displaying behavioural issues. They also provide a lifetime rescue back up service, providing support and help where necessary. Their adoption contacts state the dog must be returned to their care if the owners, for any reason, are no longer able to keep the dog. They home check all homes before rehoming a dog, and their home checker meets all members of the family to ensure that the dog will be comfortable with everyone. This is to reduce the risk of a dog not settling in or not being a good fit for the family, as some of their dogs are stressed for example by young children.
They will never euthanise a healthy dog.
