Who are AFFECT?
Action for Families Enduring Criminal Trauma is a UK charity, established 25 years ago in recognition of families, who are often the forgotten victims when their loved one is accused or convicted of a serious criminal offence. AFFECT advocates for and support families affected by the Criminal Justice System while educating society about the key role family ties play, in reducing reoffending rates and fostering positive behaviour during incarceration. AFFECT supports families across England who are navigating the trauma and isolation that follows such life altering events. The AFFECT team is made up of dedicated Volunteers, Staff and Trust Board Members, many of whom have lived experience supporting a loved one through the prison system.
The most recent Government estimated statics indicate that approximately 192,000 children in England and Wales currently have a parent in prison. These alarming figures highlight the crucial need for families to receive the support, understanding, and resources necessary to cope, heal, and rebuild.
