Amazon's Plan to Halt the Sale of Fake Goods - Unveiling the Strategies

Amazon is making a conscious effort to weed out those sellers who brandish fake goods. Unfortunately though, that means that everybody could be impacted as sellers are forced to pay a one-off fee.

The new method dubbed as ‘brand gating’ will ensure that fake goods will struggle to find their way onto their website. It’s been well documented that websites such as eBay and Amazon have a hard time keeping replicated items from their domains. But this new way could filter out all of the ‘rip off’ brands or copies, but this could subsequently alter the dynamics of selling on Amazon.

It’s the term to describe this new technique that amazon are looking to apply. The problem with it is that the sellers could be charged up to £1,500 to list one item. The good part about it is that they ensure all sellers input the details of the product. This means they will have to list their invoice and show proof of the purchase. It needs to have also been bought within the last 90 days.

Varied Fees and Uncertainties: Amazon's Inconsistent Approach Raises Concerns Among Sellers

There have already been bemused users of Amazon, as it’s been rather inconsistent so far. With no real guidelines highlighted for the fees, some have been reported to pay up to $1,500 for listing Nike whilst others have had to pay a fee of $1000 for other brands. It’s hard to gauge how much it will cost sellers in furture but it seems to be a feeling out stage up to now. This could discourage many people from selling on Amazon at all and could even see some leave the website to use similar concepts.

The idea is to allow customers to shop in confidence and it should certainly do that. There should be a huge reduction in fake items but there could also be a decrease in sellers altogether.
