What Does the 'i' in iPhone Stand For?

Have you ever wondered what the 'i' in iPod, iPhone and iPad stands for, because if you have, a leaked document may have revealed the answer. If you think about it, it is a bit weird that iPods are called “iPods” because that doesn't really describe what they are. Why not ePods (electronic pods), mPods (music pods), aPods (Apple pods) or even pPods (portable pods)? Come to think of it, they aren't even pods! But that's beside the point. What you will be very interested to hear is that an anonymous source has revealed to the masses the answer and this fifteen year old mystery has now been revealed!

Why is it called the 'iPod'?

The 'i' in iPod, it turns out, actually stands for 'inefficient'! Yes, a shocker, I know. Now, you might ask yourself why a business would give their product a name which actually reflects badly on it, and the answer is that they didn't have a choice. The Campaign for Healthy Electronic Evaluations in Scientific Environments (C.H.E.E.S.E.) are an organisation through which every electronics manufacturer has to submit their products. C.H.E.E.S.E do various tests on products and then give them a rank based on how well they perform and, sadly, Apple's products have consistently failed the tests and have earned an 'inefficient' grade for their devices.

Products that have received the 'inefficient' grade are still allowed to be published, but the manufacturer has to make it clear that the product has been marked as 'inefficient' by C.H.E.E.S.E. What Apple have been doing is very sneaky; they put it right their in the title of all the things they produce and, actually, if you look through the terms and conditions, you'll actually find it there written in a very technical and unclear way.

“In compliance with C.H.E.E.S.E regulations, we are required by law to inform you that the ranking this product received is reflected in the first character of its official designation.”

The only reason they've been able to get away with this extremely unclear statement is that 'inefficient' ranking is because 'inefficient' is the only C.H.E.E.S.E rating that begins with the letter 'i' which is an amazingly cunning loop hole! So how will this news affect Apple? Well, I imagine they'll see a huge reduction in sales! After all, how on Earth could it be trendy to be seen using inefficient phones and inefficient pads in public? It couldn't and this is very likely to be the beginning of the end for Apple...

Or, at least, it would be if any of that were true. Ha! Yes, it is I, the Voucher Monkey – the very same who authored last week's article about the split between Ant and Dec. A lot of you were very angry about that false report actually and, you know what? I can understand that. Nobody likes to waste their time reading something which then turns out to be false, but with the utmost respect, I think you're missing the point. I'm called “Voucher Monkey” for a reason. It's a miracle I am even able to formulate intelligent human thoughts, let alone type them out and post them on the Internet! The factual content of what I write should be neither here nor there.
