The FDA is currently looking into claims that a conditioner has caused consumers to lose their hair.

The cleansing conditioner, Wen, has been reported to have caused scalp irritation and even cause some hair to fall out for some users. This latest incident has sparked debates amongst the industry as it has now been realised that the FDA doesn’t have the power to recall harmful products. This is quite a concern, not just for the US but for people here in the UK too. As all brands should receive the utmost care and be tightly regulated by all governing bodies.

The Contrast Between Companies

Many of the bigger cosmetic companies agree that the FDA should be enabled to recall any items they wish but there is still an opposing view from some of the smaller companies who don’t believe that the FDA warrant the power to withdraw items deemed harmful. Although the administration can call back any mislabelled or contaminated products they can’t recall solely on the reports of harm. The aforementioned Wen conditioner received over 21,000 complaints but the company were under no obligation to report these to the FDA. This surely shows a lack of communication or regulation.
