What Does Music for All Do?
Music for All is dedicated to changing lives across the UK by improving access to music making. We are a passionate, focused and ambitious UK charity helping disadvantaged music makers experience the joys and far-reaching benefits of making music.
Established 28 years ago, Music for All has a track record in providing support. Over the past five years alone we have awarded over £300,000 in cash grants, donated hundreds of instruments and equipment to individuals, community groups and educational establishments, and provided free ‘Learn to Play’ experiences for thousands of people.
What Services Does Music for All Provide?
Music for All’s work can be divided into several key areas:
Individual Grants
Music for All awards small grants to individuals who want to learn or develop their musical skills but lack the financial means. These grants can cover the cost of instruments, tuition, or specialist equipment.
Community Project Grants
Community groups, schools, and charities can also apply for Music for All funding to start or sustain music-making projects. This could include creating inclusive choirs, setting up local bands, or providing music therapy sessions for those facing social or health challenges. Each funded project brings people together through shared creativity, improving wellbeing and fostering social inclusion.
Learn to Play
Music for All also runs the Learn to Play initiative, an annual nationwide event that gives people across the UK the chance to try out instruments for free. Hosted by music shops, teachers, and venues, these sessions encourage beginners or lapsed music makers to take their first steps into music-making.
Music Makers’ Charter
Music for All is campaigning for greater investment in grassroots music making opportunities with their Music Makers’ Charter Campaign. Support the charter via this link: https://c.org/hMbP5bTJLS
Why Music for All’s Work Matters
Music is more than a pastime - it’s a powerful tool for improving wellbeing, building confidence, and strengthening communities. Studies show that engaging with music can reduce anxiety, improve memory, and enhance communication skills.
By helping disadvantaged communities access music making opportunities, Music for All aims to create happier, more connected communities. Every instrument given, every grant awarded, and every project funded brings people together and opens doors that might otherwise remain closed.
