The on-going battle between Instagram and Snapchat continues. It looks as though Instagram may have won over some of Snapchat’s fans too.
These concepts are very similar and we reported in the initial launch of Instagram stories and what it meant for their rivals. But months into this new feature we have seen ups and downs. People from Snapchat stayed loyal by using Instagram to post their Snapchat ID, encouraging people to add them on their trusty app. Since then though, many have recognised the difference between the two apps.
What’s the Difference between Instagram and Snapchat?
Snapchat started out providing users with an ephemeral platform that allows consumers to post pictures that are only available for ten seconds at most. This whole concept had it labelled a ‘sexting’ app, but it’s come a long way since then. It allows an audience to see real life events and pictures, although there are funny filters and narcissist selfies, as a whole it shows a realistic view of our everyday life.
Instagram has always been deemed as the social media website for our ‘best’. It’s not a place to post a whole photo album, we capture our best snaps and many utilise the readily available filters to decorate their picture too. So in terms of reputation these two companies have a very different feel. But since the introduction of Instagram Story, things have changed. Are there any differences between the concepts?
Instagram Stories have improved some of Snapchat’s features and made their interface user-friendly. It is easy to distinguish between different user’s snaps with their progress bar showing when each person’s story ends. It is also far easier to look at who has seen your picture or video, with an opportunity to flick through the different stories to see who has seen each one.
Snapchat Stories still have that exclusive feel that cannot be bought; it’s something that they have earned over the years. This company offers an insight into a business or person’s life. The ten second pictures are only available on Snapchat too with Instagram offering the 24 hour stories that mimic the ideology of Snapchat’s story properties.
Should Businesses use Snapchat and Instagram?
There are great opportunities for companies to capitalise on with these kinds of platforms. It offers you the public’s attention and the short time spam could actually be an advantage. Snapchat’s idea means that the audience have to give the snapchat their concentration even if it is for a short amount of time. Instagram on the other hand is also a great way to show an insight into businesses, which will subsequently make consumers feel like part of the company. It could increase customer loyalty. Both of these techniques could be beneficial to businesses, but surely it’d be great to have the option to sync the two? Something we won’t hold a breath for as the two social networks battle it out.
Which One Should I Use?
There’s no doubt that both of these ideas are beneficial for businesses and enjoyable for other users. The debate has solely focussed on which of the rivals is the better of the two, but as time goes on it’s becoming evident that there could be room for both. The Facebook owned company, Instagram actually attempted to buy Snapchat for $3 Billion only for their offer to be rejected. This caused a lot of circulation and Instagram eventually came up with a Snapchat replica. Instagram seems to keep their sophisticated reputation with colourful pictures that people are proud. It offers the chance to show photos that might not be worthy for the actual profile. Snapchat still hold relevance and there’s an air about their service that gives individuals a sense of exclusivity. With that said Instagram has already showcased their ability for a further reach, so businesses might opt towards Instagram. Individuals will most likely enjoy sharing with particular friends and connections on Snapchat’s option.
There doesn’t have to be a winner, as there could be enough room for both to successfully operate. The idea that Instagram’s success would make Snapchat obsolete could be unfounded as they continue to take the world by storm with their incredible daily user figures.
