Could this be the end of the Pokémon Go Craze?
The Pokémon phenomenon seems to be drawing to a close as stats have noticed a drastic fall in users.
These results are just preliminary though as they only monitored a day’s worth of statistics. But the the usage fell dramatically with 45 million users being reduced to 30. Obviously these are still extortionate figures and enough to top the free Google Play store but it does show a concerning pattern.
The Good
So far this game has managed to encourage people of all ages, shapes and sizes to venture outside of their home and exercise. The public now walk rather than driving and some miss their bus just to find their favourite Pokémon. Not only has this vintage game heightened levels of nostalgia as adults relive their childhood but it's actively got people communicating. Many individuals share their excitement and meet at Poké gyms. It’s a shame it takes a game for some people to get involved in these types of activities but nevertheless it shows the power of the newfound augmented reality. This concept will most certainly direct future gaming in a new direction, standby for some of the new releases and virtual reality games. We have already discussed Pokémon Go, augmented reality and how buying virtual reality goggles could influence our gaming experience. The Bad
In this day and age we have problems communicating with one another unless it’s through a screen. How many times have people nearly bumped into you whilst obsessively peering into their phone? Well that’s increased tenfold but you now see them tapping away as they try to capture Pikachu. A lot of our social media feeds have been covered in Pokémon tactics, discussions and squad screenshots too. So it’s mainly a bad element for those that haven’t joined the fun, whilst those participating are most likely embracing all of the above.
And The Ugly
Although we mentioned the benefits of uniting people and how this has improved communication on some levels, it has also caused some disturbing signs. Rather than a reflection on the game it’s more of one on the current mindset of some individuals. A stampede was caused as many chased popular Pokémon in a park and many didn’t acknowledge each other but instead they just pushed each other out the way. There’s also been reports showing people trespassing or ending up at the wrong place at the wrong time.
All in all the negatives are on a minor scale and they’re not really a consequence of the game itself. Many will be rather disappointed if the enthusiasm for the reality game is abandoned. The early signs show a decrease but there’s still much to go on, so time well tell. Hopefully the game continues its success and everyone can continue their exercise and impressive Pokémon collection.
