Nintendo Switch vs Switch Lite

The original Nintendo Switch has been out since 2017 and it is leading the way for handheld gaming consoles. At a rrp of £279 the Nintendo Switch isn't the most accessible of consoles but its list of top tier games such as Mario Kart and Pokemon make it a must have for Nintendo fans. The original Nintendo switch sells itself as two consoles in one, you are able to connect it to a TV and then pack it up and play on the go as a portable device. If you choose to connect it to your TV then you can use the detachable Joy Cons as a controller and if you have multiple Joy Cons then you can play with all of your friends in one place.

The Nintendo Switch Lite is a cheaper version of the original and it comes in three colours at a much smaller price tag of £199, but there are a few compromises. The biggest of these compromises is that it is a portable only console, this means that it cannot be docked and you lose the ability to be able to play it on your TV. The Nintendo Switch screen size also takes a sacrifice, shrinking from 6.2 to 5.5” but this may actually be a benefit as the 720p screen will look sharper with more clarity on a smaller screen than its predecessor. The Switch Lite is capable of playing all of the same games as the original with the exception of titles which require the use of motion control and the IR camera. These titles will require the purchase of additional Joy Cons which are priced at £64.99 for a pair. Each of these games will however have a symbol on the box to say if it is handheld only so you don't have to worry about accidentally buying a game that you can't play.
