What Does Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum Do?
Nottingham & Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum offers practical advice, information, support and friendship to refugees. They have also been campaigning on issues affecting refugees since 2000. They support asylum seekers in gaining just outcomes, rebuilding their lives and integrating into society.
They are a team of 40 staff members and over 200 volunteers. They are all working to provide advice, specific support to clients, run their Community Café and Community Garden.
What Services do Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum Provide?
Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum provide advice in relation to asylum support. This includes support in opening bank accounts and accessing housing and benefits, ESOL classes, accessing health care, and signposting to local solicitors. They offer dedicated advice and support for LGBTQI+ clients too. They have opportunities for clients to volunteer or join different activities, including their women’s group, youth group and gardening.
They also provide practical support to asylum seekers after a negative decision from the Home Office. This can be a very stressful time for their clients, and Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum are here to keep working on their asylum case. Their Friday Food Bank is part of the Project and supports 45 destitute asylum seekers with essential needs. Thanks to donations and volunteers, they are able to provide fresh produce, meat, non-perishable items, and toiletries every week.
Who Does NNRF Help and What Impact Have They Had?
Their Café is a safe and welcoming space for their clients to eat, drink and socialise. They provide a hot meal Monday to Friday, free of charge to refugees and asylum seekers, as well as hot drinks and Wi-Fi access. The Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum Café reopened after Covid and has since served over 4000 meals to staff, clients, and volunteers. Refugees and asylum seekers can also volunteer at the Café to learn new skills and share their favourite recipes. Their Café has become the heart of the Forum, a vibrant place, serving more than 50 people a day.

How Will The Donation Help Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Refugee Forum?
Their Anti-Destitution Project would be the main recipient of the donation. The project helps 45 destitute refused asylum seekers with their immediate needs and provides support around their immigration cases thanks to their team of caseworkers.
Their Food Bank has been going for over 12 years, run almost entirely by volunteers. However, the cost of living crisis strongly impacted their beneficiaries and made it more difficult for them to afford food and toiletries. They aim to alleviate some degree of food poverty and to give their clients some choice, nutrition and variety in their weekly groceries.
