Supporting Sick Newborns and Their Parents (SSNAP): Why Your Vote Matters This October
Here at My Favourite Voucher Codes, we know that small choices can lead to big change. That’s why, every month, we invite you to vote in our Charity Poll. The charity with the most votes earns 20% of our monthly profits, and it doesn’t cost you a thing to get involved!
For October 2025, we’re thrilled to feature SSNAP – Support for the Sick Newborn and Their Parents — a charity making an incredible difference for families experiencing some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
Let’s take a closer look at who SSNAP are, the remarkable work they do, and why your vote this month can truly change lives.
Who Are SSNAP?
SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents) is a UK-registered charity based at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, supporting babies who need specialist neonatal care and the families who love them.
Their mission is simple yet powerful: to support sick and premature newborns, their parents, and the dedicated medical teams who care for them. SSNAP ensures that no family has to face neonatal care alone.
When a newborn is admitted to the neonatal unit, families often find themselves thrust into a world of medical jargon, machines, and long nights by incubators. SSNAP steps in with compassion, understanding, and practical help.
The charity is guided by five core areas of support:
1. Supporting Families When It Matters Most
Having a baby in neonatal care can be emotionally overwhelming. SSNAP’s Family Care Team is there every day, providing someone to talk to, explaining procedures, and offering comfort and reassurance. They also provide practical help — from food vouchers and travel support to care packs and small comforts that ease a parent’s day.
Through Little SSNAPlings, the support continues even after discharge. These baby and toddler groups are a safe, welcoming space for families to connect, share their journeys, and celebrate milestones together.
2. Funding Vital Equipment
Every piece of neonatal equipment — from incubators and heart monitors to specialised seating for parents — can make a huge difference to a baby’s recovery and a family’s comfort. SSNAP regularly funds medical technology and items that go beyond what the NHS can provide, ensuring babies receive the very best care possible.
3. Investing in Staff Training
The neonatal team at the John Radcliffe Hospital is among the best in the country, and SSNAP helps keep it that way by funding training and professional development. Whether it’s specialist neonatal resuscitation, new care techniques, or wellbeing support for staff, SSNAP ensures those caring for tiny lives are always equipped with the skills and confidence they need.
4. Supporting Research and Innovation
SSNAP also invests in medical research and collaboration projects to push neonatal care forward. Their partnerships with the University of Oxford and the Paediatric Neuroimaging Group have helped fund studies into brain development and post-discharge care. Projects like My Baby’s Brain help parents better understand their babies’ development and needs.
They’ve even helped create the SSNAP & Silver Star Garden — a beautiful outdoor space at the Women’s Centre at the John Radcliffe — offering families and staff a peaceful retreat during difficult days.
Why SSNAP Needs Your Vote
SSNAP’s work is vital, but it relies entirely on donations, grants, and fundraising to continue. Each year, hundreds of families need their support — and every donation helps them reach another parent, buy another piece of equipment, or fund another research initiative.
By voting for SSNAP in our October Charity Poll, you’re helping them:
● Continue providing emotional and practical support for parents in crisis.
● Purchase more life-saving neonatal equipment.
● Fund training to keep medical staff at the forefront of neonatal care.
● Invest in pioneering research that improves care for babies across the UK.
Your vote could directly contribute to saving lives — and giving families hope when they need it most.
