Together for Animals is an animal welfare charity that helps animals in need by raising money for its member charities. Their four member charities help animals all over the world. They do so by taking in unwanted, neglected and abused animals, giving them a second chance to live free from harm and find their forever homes. They also provide essential education to the public on animal care, train veterinary professionals in developing countries and provide affordable veterinary treatment. Together for Animals raise money to support these charities, dividing all donations between them in order to help as many animals as possible.
Who Are Together for Animals?
Founded in 1993, Together for Animals is a consortium of four charities whose focus is on improving the lives of animals. Their charities work with dogs, cats, small animals, horses and donkeys both in the UK and abroad. They provide a range of services to help animals, owners and communities around the globe. Their member charities support animals through rescue and rehoming, providing expert veterinary care and helping owners to care for their animals. They provide support to pet owners in need through affordable or free veterinary care, help professional training of veterinary professionals in developing countries and educate those around the world in the care and welfare of animals.
All donations to Together for the Animals are divided equally between their four member charities, helping animals from big to small in the UK and beyond to live the life they deserve.
What Charities Do Together for Animals Support?
Together for Animals has four member charities that they raise funds for and donate to. These four member charities are Blue Cross, Mayhew, SPANA and World Horse Welfare.
Blue Cross: This charity has been helping dogs, cats, horses and small animals to find a home since 1987. They take in thousands of pets in need every month, providing everyday care, veterinary care and behavioural help to ensure that they can find their forever homes. They also offer essential advice and behavioural services to owners, support for owners grieving the loss of a pet and provide affordable vet care for those who are struggling or unable to pay for private vet fees.
Mayhew: Mayhew rescue and rehome over 500 cats and dogs in London every year, and provide expert care to homeless pets in need. However, they know that animal welfare issues and social inequality often go hand in hand, with many people struggling to care for their pets or uneducated on essential pet care. That’s why they offer a variety of social services too, in order to help animals and people to enjoy life together. They visit schools and colleges to educate on animal welfare issues, offer support for homeless pet owners, offer low cost microchipping and neutering services and work overseas to help street cats and dogs.
SPANA: SPANA stands for the Society for the Protection of Animals Abroad, and they are the number one charity to support working animals all around the globe as well as the communities that depend on them. Their free veterinary centres and mobile clinics provide expert care for working animals in need, whilst their professional training helps vets in developing countries to improve their skills in humane animal treatment. They also offer animal welfare education to communities so that they can build a positive relationship with the animals they interact with every day.
World Horse Welfare: This charity provides care for horses around the world, through educating people, providing hands-on care and campaigning to improve the welfare of horses. For nearly 100 years they have been helping horses, including pet horses, working horses and sport horses as well as any other equine in need. They have four rescue and rehoming centres across Britain, making them the largest horse rescue and rehoming charity in the UK. As well as field officers who help rescue horses in need, they work internationally to help working horses to get the care they need and help tourists be aware of the plight of working horses abroad.
