For a selection of this year's top travel destinations, you've come to the right place, as this article is jam packed with excellent holiday ideas. January is probably the least favourite month for a lot of people: Christmas is over and the weather is cold. It's known to be the month of the year when people's happiness levels are at their lowest. So you know what that means? You should treat yourself and take a holiday! It would be a great way to beat the January blues. Here are a list of the Top 10 travel destinations of January 2016 for those of you who would like to take a holiday!

10. Douglas, The Isle of Man
It's not far away and, as they say, why travel across the world when you've got gems like this at your doorstep? The Isle of Man is just a very short flight away and home to a number of charming locations, making it an attractive travel destination. You could explore ancient castles (such as Peel Castle or Castle Rushen), take a ride on a lovely steam train or experience the horse tram line. This travel destination may not be the most exotic, but that doesn't mean you couldn't have a wonderful time there and form some priceless memories! Perfect for those who don't want to go too far and who don't want to deal with any culture shock. Douglas is the capital and is a beautiful bay view town and not too far from the island's main attractions.
9. Save on your Travels to Seville in Spain With Our Qatar Voucher Codes
Spain is a popular location for summer holidays, but you might find that there are fewer tourists if you decide to make it your travel destination during the winter months! Also, while many come for the extreme heats of summer, that could well be too hot and who knows what that's doing to your skin? If you come in January you'll find that it is still warmer than it is here in the UK without being uncomfortable and sweltering. Seville is home to the beautiful Seville Cathedral which is well worth a visit and is also not far from the sea! Being a large city, staying in Seville will give you lots of opportunities to try out lovely restaurants and to buy yourself lots of exciting souvenirs. (If reading this list is getting you excited about the idea of taking a holiday of your own, be sure to check out some of the voucher codes we offer. For example, Qatar are currently offering up to 50% off select flights! These good deals are not to be missed.)
8. Go to Podgorica, Montenegro With These Price Reductions
If you weren't too keen on either of the first two (fairly standard) travel destinations, then maybe you'd be interested in Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro? Podgorica is a city with a deep and rich history and just walking through its streets is an exciting experience in and of itself. Podgorica is also the home of the Montenegrin National Theatre and a visit there could be the perfect opportunity to soak in some of the local culture. Podgorica, much like Seville, is often thought of as more of a summer location, but visiting in January, again, will help you to avoid both, large groups of tourists and uncomfortable levels of heat. (Something else you may be interested to know is that Virgin Atlantic currently have a huge number of price reductions on flights. When it comes to flights, the cheaper the better! The less you spend on getting there, the more you can spend on having fun.)
7. Visit Dushanbe, Tajikistan
But let's go even further away from the norm; Podgorica may be a slightly more unique place to visit, but it is still in Europe. Extending the field to Asia, our fourth travel destination is Dushanbe in Tajikistan. Again, this is another huge city which is simply a marvel to explore; it's really exciting to compare the architectural designs to those with which we are familiar at home. Dushanbe is the home of the Tajikistan National Museum and a visit there could be the perfect way to learn a little more about the country and its history. Other local attractions in Dushanbe include the Dushanbe Zoo and the world's second longest free-standing flag pole.
6. Relax in Malé in the Maldives
Another Asian travel destination for our fifth choice! If you want to get away from the drab, grey, cold weather in the UK, then a visit to Malé could be just what you need – in January and February they experience average highs of around thirty degrees Celsius! So that would certainly be a refreshing change. But don't worry about it being too hot; The Maldives are an island chain and Malé is an island of its own so it would be perfect to take a dip in the Indian Ocean to cool yourself off! There are a range of excellent hotels in the area from the nice and affordable Marble Hotel to the expensive (but luxurious) Kurumba Maldives. Regardless of where in Malé you may stay, it could be the perfect getaway for sun, sea and relaxation!
5. Fly to Jyväskylä in Finland at Reduced Prices
Taking a trip to Jyväskylä might actually help you to appreciate the weather in England! But in all seriousness, though it may be cold, the Finnish winters often bring snow with them and it could be a great chance to see the beautiful winter wonderland that we didn't get over here during Christmas. Jyväskylä has a beautifully quaint mixture of modern buildings with wooden houses which is really quite remarkable. Surrounded by rolling hills and not far from Lake Päijänne, Jyväskylä provides the perfect blend of the modern beauty of cities and the ancient beauty of nature. Definitely a worthy travel destination.
4. See Something New in Marrakesh, Morocco
Until now, Africa had been conspicuous by its absence from this list of travel destinations, but Marrakesh is an excellent place to visit. Marrakesh has a range of gorgeous attractions, from the Menara and Agdal Gardens to the remains of the El Badi Palace and from the Saadian Tombs to the five star Mamounia Hotel. This is another travel destination with a wealth of historical value; it's hard not to get caught up in the history and culture of the place as you wander up and down it's many streets. If you like to pick up souvenirs, then you'll love the open air marks (souks) where you can get some excellent gifts for your friends and something unique for yourself so that you never forget the trip
3. Tick Some Things Off Your Bucket List in Glasgow, Scotland
Again, though we may have just covered the far reaches of Africa, let's not forget the fantastic travel destinations waiting at our doorstep! Though many may not think of Glasgow as a luxury travel destination, if you've never been, this city is well worth a visit. For one thing, Glasgow is home to one of the largest libraries in Europe, which will be exciting to all book lovers; just imagine spending hours wandering around it's many shelves. You could catch a concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall or come and see the Celtic Connections Festival (in January) or the Glasgow Film Festival (in February). Once you look into it, you'll see that Glasgow really does have a lot to offer.
2. Travel to The Big Apple and See New York City, America
How have I gotten through eight travel destinations without once mentioning America? Well, I'm mentioning it now and the place I want to mention specifically is New York City! They don't call it the cultural capital of the world for nothing... From the Statue of Liberty to the Brooklyn Bridge, New York City is full to the brim with exciting attractions. If you love city-living, then you'll love New York City where you can easily dedicate whole days to exploring without coming close to seeing everything! Climb to the top of the Empire State Building and admire the view or take a look at the cityscape in the middle of the night when all the lights are on; you'll soon see that urban areas can often be just as beautiful as natural expanses.
1. Go to the Other Side Of the World and See Cairns, Australia
Because if the Post Yuletide Depression and the January blues have you down and you just need to get away from it all, why not go as far as possible? Australia may be on the other side of the world, but you should definitely make the effort to get down to this travel destination at least once! January may be the heart of winter for us in England, but it's the heart of summer in Australia! The heat may even be a bit of a shock, but if you find yourself craving summertime, this is to place to go. Cairns gives you access to the Great Barrier Reef, which is one of the seven wonders of the world; sure, you may now be sitting at a cold desk reading an article online, but soon you could be swimming in the cool ocean while the sun shines down on you with thirty degree temperature heat! Heaven.
