Why do we Love Cats so Much?
We truly are a planet of cat lovers and seeing as today is International Cat Day (isn’t every day?), we thought we’d take a closer look at exactly why cats deserve our undying affection even if they, to put it in the kindest terms possible, can be a little standoffish? Or if you want to be slightly more upfront about it, toy with our emotions until they break our hearts. Even though they pretend they barely tolerate us most of the time, here are the reasons why we will always love our feline friends unconditionally…
1) They Aren’t Afraid of Anything. Apart from Vacuum Cleaners. And Cucumbers
Cats can hold their own against most things. Present them with a dog about 5 times the size of them and many will raise their hackles and hiss in a most spectacular display of bravado. Ok, to be fair the dog probably won’t run in the opposite direction with its tail between its legs, but we can still give them 10 out of 10 for effort. And sometimes they don’t even have to display any aggression – a withering stare is enough to send chills down the spine of their mortal enemy. However, there are a couple of exceptions to this rule. As any cat owner knows, once you fire up the vacuum cleaner you can wave goodbye to setting eyes on your feline for several hours as they’re either cowering under a bed or shivering on top of the curtain rail. So if they ever decide to join forces and declare war on the human race, we know what to do. Oh, that and put a cucumber next to them. We have absolutely no explanation for this.
2) They’re Clean. Really Clean
From a purely practical point of view, in terms of cleanliness, a cat is the perfect (sorry, purrrfect) pet. Ok, so you have to clean out the litter tray every week, but compared to picking up after your dog, this in an absolute doddle. Cats actually make an effort to hide their deposits (although they might shuck about a fair amount of cat litter in the process), and for that cat owners will always be eternally grateful. And to show your gratefulness, you can even treat them to some extra posh cat litter using Monster Pet Supplies voucher codes. Let’s not mention the random hairballs though. They’re not so hygienic.
3) They Really Don’t Give a Damn. Or They Pretend They Don’t
They certainly like to keep us on our toes, those cats. They toy with our heartstrings, and we all, like the fools we are, forgive them every time. We lavish affection on them and most of the time they reward us with tolerance at best and yet we keep coming back for more. Yet, as all cat owners know, this is just a show. They love us really. We are the ones that feed them, after all, and feed them we do, with some of the finest cat foods known to feline-kind. If you want to explore even more posh pet food options, you can use Zooplus.co.uk promo codes to save on a wider choice of brands to keep them satisfied.
4) They Fully Appreciate the Power They have Over Us
‘Our cats are smarter than us and we’re completely ok with that’, said every cat owner ever. N matter how shabbily your cat treats you, you only have admiration, never annoyance or hatred. They are the top dog in every house because they are jerks and we love them for it. They can exploit this power because no matter how many dead animals they bring in the house or meals they vomit on the beige carpet, we will still coo at them. And they know this. Clever cats. And to reward them for all their bad behaviour we treat them using the latest Waitrose Pet discount vouchers instead of putting them in the naughty corner as we would with our own children. See, they really are the top dogs.
5) They Make Great YouTube Videos
Would there be any YouTube with cats? We suspect not. Not only do the many videos reinforce cat owners’ behaviour and love of our pets, but they also act as enablers to the many millions out there tempted by the prospect cat ownership. Ok, we call it ‘ownership’ but we all know who’s really in charge.
Cats are so clever they’ve even managed to ensure there is an entire global day of celebration devoted to them, so make sure you lavish your feline with plenty of treats and affection this International Cat Day. Not that you really need any excuse though…
