Show Your Support for Mental Health in Honour of Time to Talk Day 2020 by Voting for Bath Mind in February’s Charity Poll
Bath Mind is a local and independent mental health charity operating across Bath and North East Somerset. Their aim is to promote and nurture everyone’s mental health through the provision of information, activities, advice and support.
About Bath Mind
Established in 1998, Bath Mind was founded by a group of local people with experience of mental ill health, who wanted people in the community to have access to activities and information. Since then, Bath Mind has worked hard to develop and provide services with local people at the heart of what they do and in response to local needs. Annually, the charity is in contact with over 3,400 people to prevent mental ill health, and to improve and maintain mental health and wellbeing for all.
Whilst they are affiliated to national Mind by brand, they are in fact their own independent and self funded charity, and receive no direct funding from Mind. Therefore, any money raised for Bath Mind goes straight back into supporting the local community.
Work That Bath Mind Does in the Local Community
Bath Mind provide a variety of services based around their mission of ‘Live, Learn and Share.’ This empowers people to engage in services and early intervention work to prevent mental ill health, maintain and improve their own wellbeing.
Live
-
Providing housing for people with long-term mental health problems and one to one community support within people’s own homes.
-
Advising clients on complex benefit problems relating to their mental health.
Learn
-
Training the local and wider community on mental health and wellbeing in the workplace.
-
The charity also believes that early intervention and prevention is key, therefore, they work closely with local schools, colleges and universities.
Share
-
Running over a dozen wellbeing groups across B&NES, ranging from cookery workshops, gardening and allotment projects to rural café style wellbeing groups.
-
Using the power of sport to support people with their mental health, from classes in Tai Chi, to ladies only swimming.
Bath Mind not only provide services, but campaign on tackling the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental ill health. The charity also works hard to improve public attitudes and behaviour towards people with mental health problems.
Bath Mind’s Vision and Values
Bath Mind’s vision is of a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all, and to ensure that people with experience of mental ill health are treated fairly, positively, and with respect. They respect everyone’s experience and ensure that inclusion and accessibility is at the heart of their work, even in those harder to reach communities. They are responsive, they listen and learn from their members and supporters with lived experience to design and develop all Bath Mind support services.
This month, in honour of Time to Talk Day 2020 on the 6th February, we’ve nominated Bath Mind to take part in our charity poll. You can support these vital mental health services in the B&NES community by casting your vote for them this February. Find out more about the charity here. Thank you!
