Get to Know Brigstowe and Vote for them In the December Charity Poll
Who are Brigstowe Charity?
Brigstowe is a small Bristol-based charity. They have been supporting people living with HIV for over 25 years.
Brigstowe provides award-winning support services to people living in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. These services include Advice & Support, Migrant Service, Peer Support Group and one-to-one Peer Mentoring. They campaign for change and deliver HIV awareness sessions in the local community. They also work with professionals to amend their policies in order to improve the health and well-being of those living with HIV by reducing stigma and discrimination.
What Services Does Brigstowe Charity Provide?
Their peer support services are a lifeline to many of their clients. They provide a confidential, safe space for people who are newly diagnosed and struggling with their diagnosis to meet with a peer mentor. They also offer group mentoring where people living with HIV can meet with other people living with the condition, socialise and gain new skills.
They deliver their Advice and Support and Migrant and Migrant services to support people in financial difficulty or those who lack access to services. They work with migrants, refugees and asylum seekers who are disproportionality affected financially and struggle to find grants to meet their basic financial needs, which is why they offer Welfare grants to those in greatest need.
Following on from their successful HIV Peer Mentoring Programme they are now delivering their Peer Support Service in other areas. As well as delivering peer support for up to 60 people living with Type 2 Diabetes per year, they are now providing this service for up to 500 people living with Long COVID.
Through their services they aim to reduce social isolation and improve the mental wellbeing of those who need their support. They rely heavily on the generosity of their supporters to maintain their services.
