What Is The British Liver Trust?

The British Liver Trust is the UK's leading liver health charity that wants to achieve real change in liver health and improve lives for all. As the only liver charity with a nurse-led helpline and online community, they provide vital support to patients and their families. 90% of liver disease is preventable so the charity raise awareness of the risk factors of liver disease through their national Love Your Liver campaign. They also campaign for early detection and better treatment and care of all liver conditions including liver cancer.

The Love Your Liver Campaign

The Love Your Liver Campaign is the charity’s national campaign that provides year round awareness of liver disease risk factors while encouraging anyone at risk to get tested. A key part of the campaign is the Love Your Liver national roadshow, which features a mobile unit allowing people to take a free online screening test, as well offering as non-invasive free liver scanning with a FibroScan machine. There’s also plenty of expert advice on offer in terms of how people can keep their liver healthy.

Information & Support

The British Liver Trust provides high quality online information along with award winning publications about every form of liver disease. In addition, there is an online community forum for anyone affected by liver disease where they can support each other 24 hours a day. The charity also has a nurse-led helpline that provides confidential information and support for patients and carers of anyone with a liver condition.

Research & Campaigns

The charity also works to ensure that people will liver diseases are given the best care and services. They work on behalf of everyone affected by liver conditions to ensure their voices are heard, as well as working with the NHS and parliamentary groups to ensure patients receive the best care, treatment and outcomes. The British Liver Trust also fund research projects into all areas of liver disease and liver cancer. Since the charity was established they have funded research into improving methods of prevention, early detection and screening, finding new treatments and identifying research areas that need further attention. 

Healthcare Professionals

The charity is currently working in partnership with the RCGP in the form of their clinical priority programme. This aims to support GPs and primary care professionals  in delivering the best care to patients with liver disease. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure liver disease prevention, detection and treatment becomes a key part of routine healthcare in the UK.
