Citizens Advice Bournemouth Christchurch & Poole is part of a national network of over 300 individual charities delivering advice across England and Wales. The aim of Citizens Advice BCP is to create sustainable and resilient communities by ensuring the residents can easily access information, education and advice to help them resolve their issues.
What Services Do Citizens Advice BCP Offer?
The charity offers free one-to-one support to people in the local community. This can be on a range of matters including benefits and tax, consumer rights, family and relationships, debt, housing, discrimination and employment.
Clients access the charity for information in person, by email and over the phone. The charity then advises clients on their rights and options; giving them the confidence to make their own choices. Ultimately, Citizens Advice BCP helps people to solve their problems, sustain their wellbeing and achieve financial independence. They can also provide further support where required such as writing letters, filling in forms and phoning other agencies on the client’s behalf.
How Can Citizens Advice BCP Help Clients?
Citizens Advice BCP can help clients in many different ways. For example, if someone has had a change in circumstance, such as losing their job, and is struggling to pay their bills; the charity provides assistance to help reduce their bills and outstanding debt where possible. This could be through things such as applying to water debt schemes to make their repayments more affordable. We advise our clients of benefits and grants they may be eligible for and help when needed with applications. This goes towards assisting clients to get in control of their finances.
The charity provides a gateway to a number services for debt and benefits. This includes EU Settlement Scheme applications, MacMillan Cancer Support, Hate Crime reporting and discrimination advice, access to foodbanks, PensionWise and their Money Talks team.
Citizens Advice BCP believe everyone should have access to free, independent, confidential advice no matter who they are or whatever their problem. They deliver outreaches across the conurbation to improve access for all. From April 2018 to March 2019, they helped over 13,000 members of the public with over 29,000 different issues. They campaign for change, working to tackle discrimination and promote equality.
