Vote Emmaus Bristol and Help to Fight Homelessness This December
Emmaus Bristol provides accommodation, tailored support and work to people who have faced homelessness. Meaningful work in their social enterprises creates purpose and stability. This enables people to re-gain confidence. It also helps them to build self-reliance whilst living in a supportive community setting.
People accepted into the Emmaus community are known as ‘companions’. The name reflects the solidarity and peer support within the community. Companions work to help themselves and their peers by volunteering in Emmaus Bristol’s social enterprises. They run three shops in Bristol. These are in Stokes Croft, Bedminster and Bishopston. Emmaus Bristol also operates a Portable Appliance Testing service and a House Clearance, Collections and Delivery service. Enquiries about house clearances, or donating items for re-sale in Emmaus’s shops can be made by emailing reuse@emmaus.org.uk. Alternatively you can phone 0117 9540886.
Shelter estimates that one in every 170 people in Bristol are homeless. This figure includes the ‘hidden homeless’ such as sofa-surfers and people in unsuitable, temporary accommodation. It also includes those who sleep in vehicles. This Christmas 31 men and women will be safe and warm as part of Emmaus Bristol’s supportive community. These people have all faced homelessness. This is a great move forward for Bristol's homeless community.
Emmaus Bristol have just taken on an additional 3-bedroomed property in Redfield Bristol. Once refurbished this will provide a home to more people who currently face homelessness. It’s one more step towards reducing homelessness in Bristol. You can find out more about all of the teams hard work and determination by visiting the Emmaus Bristol website. It’s a great place to stay up to date on all of the great activities that Emmaus Bristol are undergoing in order to ease the prevalence of homelessness in Bristol.
Why not support the good work that Emmaus Bristol are working to do? It’s definitely worth giving them a vote in the December charity poll. This will put them in good stead to win 20% of our profits during the lead up to Christmas. The money will help to fund homelessness prevention. It will also support those who need it the most.
