KIDS Charity Bio
KIDS is a registered charity that works with disabled children from birth up until the age of 25, allowing them to provide continuity of support as children become young adults. They also support parents and siblings as they recognise that the family unit is often under enormous strain when caring for a disabled child. Founded 45 years ago, they currently work with 8,000 children a year from all across England and we support all conditions. Their vision is a world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations and their right to an inclusive community which supports them and their families. Their core services are all designed to instil confidence and help children to develop independence and key life skills.
Their programmes include:
- Home Learning visits for babies, to help parents understand how to support development in the very early stages. This early intervention enables 60% of children to go to mainstream nurseries and schools when they leave the service.
- Short respite breaks to allow parents some time away from their caring responsibilities. Short breaks significantly lower parents’ stress levels and reduce the chances of family break up.
- Independent Living sessions for young people aged 14 to 25 to help them acquire vital life skills including cooking, taking public transport or looking for a job.
- Parents Forums to influence local policies around health and social services.
- Support for siblings and young carers to give them a chance to make friends access emotional support.
Their vision is a world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations and their right to an inclusive community which supports them and their families. They are an extremely lean charity, with 92% of our income being spent directly on frontline services for disabled children. Please know that your support will make a huge difference to the lives of the families we support. They are passionate about making a life changing difference to the lives of disabled children and young people along with their families. With your help we can.
