Micro Loan Foundation
The work of the Micro Loan Foundation builds on the principle of sustainable development, providing small loans for women in rural Malawi and Zambia so they can set up their own businesses and become self-sufficient. The Micro Loan Foundation begins this process by visiting rural villages. Once they have identified a need for their service, the organisation and its workers sets up a training programme for groups of 12-20 that involves workshops on money management. Average starting loans are only £40, and the training given by the Micro Loan Foundation is ongoing, with fortnightly group workshops covering business planning and market research. All Micro Loan Foundation repayments are recycled and put back into the charity to ensure its future work and with 99% of loans repaid, this organisation has helped set up many successful local businesses including market stalls, bakeries and second hand clothes shops.
