PDSA Charity Bio
For a nation of pet lovers, the PDSA has become an essential part of animal welfare in the UK and it relies on donations and support to help it provide veterinary care to those who find themselves unable to afford it. The PDSA (or People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals as it was then known) was set up in 1917 by animal welfare pioneer, Maria Dickin. She opened the first PDSA clinic in London’s Whitechapel and from that point on, the PDSA grew from these humble beginnings to successfully operating 17 PDSA clinics by 1924. Today, the PDSA is now a nationwide operation, and with the public’s help, the PDSA provides support, advice and veterinary care through its network of 51 PDSA hospitals and 380 practices. The PDSA offers an invaluable service in 3 distinct ways – providing life-saving operations in its many PDSA centres, preventing disease, and promoting responsible pet ownership through its PDSA education programme.
So how can using our discount vouchers help the PDSA? Well, we give 20% of our profits to a different charity every month, and when you see the PDSA featured in one of our regular polls, you can vote for the PDSA to receive that month’s total, as well as using our many deals to add to that total PDSA contribution. Supporting the PDSA means you will join the ranks of one of the many well-known PDSA supporters including Sir Steve Redgrave, Rod Stewart and Sara Cox, so if you’d like to provide the PDSA with even more help, why not take a look at one of the current PDSA fundraising and awareness campaigns? You can also check in regularly with our charity polls to see if the PDSA is being featured in any particular month, and don’t forget, spending using our online savings also contributes to the PDSA cause.
