Help to Support Deaf Children and Their Families By Voting For The Phoenix Group for Deaf Children This March 2019
The Phoenix Group for Deaf Children and Young Adults support deaf young people throughout Hertfordshire. They do this by providing support, workshops and activities within peer groups. These activities help these young people to develop their confidence, understand their condition, and get the essential support that they need. The charity also provides support for the families and siblings of young deaf people through a greater understanding of the condition and deaf culture. Having a solid understanding of the condition helps families to come to terms with the issue, while the sufferer can begin to understand and accept their condition. Ultimately, the charity want to show people that, though support and help, deaf children can lead a normal, happy and healthy life.
9% of the population of under 18s in the UK are deaf and The Phoenix Group for Deaf Children aim to support as many of that demographic in their area as they can. They are working through this mission by working with deaf and SEN organisations and by also providing practical support both young people and their families.
How Do They Help to Support Both Children and Families?
The Phoenix Group for Deaf Children have made a huge difference to many deaf lives within the county. They work to support not only deaf young people, but also their siblings who can often get overlooked within the family dynamic. They also help parents/carers and grandparents to access the support that they also need. When there is a deaf young person in the family, it can be tricky for families know how to handle the situation and this can put pressure on family dynamics. That’s where The Phoenix Group step in. They help families to establish new dynamics and positive behaviour, while also giving them the information and support needed to start enjoying family life once more. This is vital not just for the families, but for the deaf young person too.
The Phoenix Group offer deaf awareness through communication tactics and sign language education. These techniques are deployed through recognised workshops and courses. As well as addressing the deaf condition, they aim to increase independence and share learning in social situations too. They help young people to develop confidence through fun group activities, and this can really positively impact the life quality of these children.
Often deaf young people and their families can face isolation, mental health issues and problematic home dynamics. This charity provides support for the whole family in order to address not just individual disadvantages, but familial issues too.
