As the charity coordinator at My Favourite Voucher Codes, I spend time each month learning about charities making a real difference in communities across the UK. I look at how support is used, the impact charities create, and the people they help every day. For June 2026, Forever Manchester is one of our four fantastic featured charities.

This month, our charity poll runs from 1st June to 30th June 2026, and during this time you can vote for the charity you want to see win 20% of our profits. Forever Manchester is hoping to become this month’s winning charity to continue funding and supporting grassroots community projects across Greater Manchester.

All About Forever Manchester

Forever Manchester is Greater Manchester’s Community Foundation, the only charity that raises money to fund and support community activity across Greater Manchester. They believe that everyone should have the opportunity to be happy, and by working with local people they help bring the community together to create something special.

Connected communities make stronger, happier communities. They provide funding for a wide range of community projects such as mental health support groups, disability groups, junior football teams, food banks, refugee support networks, and knit & natter groups.

Since Forever Manchester was established in 1989 they have delivered over £66 million into local communities, supporting over 1,300 community projects in Greater Manchester each year.

Forever Manchester is all about:

What does Forever Manchester Do?

In every neighbourhood across Greater Manchester there are thousands of people involved in community activity. In fact, at any given time there are an unbelievable 20,000 local grassroots projects of varying sizes and interests taking place. These activities are the lifeblood of our neighbourhoods, they are happening right now on our doorsteps, and they are being run by people who give up their precious time to make our communities happier and safer places to be.

Forever Manchester cares about those people who care enough to act. They champion local people doing extraordinary things together. And when advice, encouragement and funding is needed, Forever Manchester is there to provide a hand up to support them.

All of the money raised for Forever Manchester is used to fund and support over 1,300 community projects each year. This means they will have supported community activity within one mile of your home or business if it’s in Greater Manchester.

Explaining the funding bit of what they do is relatively straight-forward. The money they raise from local people and businesses, or wherever they can get it, is used to fund all types of community activity across Greater Manchester which they deliver in the form of grants and awards. As well as promoting and processing our various funding programmes, they also support and guide groups through the funding process. 

They provide help and advice on how to apply for funding and how to fill in our online application forms, as well as making sure that a group has the correct policies and documentation in place to ensure that they can access the relevant funding. They also support communities by working closely with them. When they work in a local area, they get to know as many people as possible, they find out what they love about where they live, and what they like to do in their neighbourhood. They discover what interests and passions people have and work closely with them to turn their great ideas into a reality, helping to make a real difference to the lives of others.

Technically and professionally this approach is known as ‘Asset Based Community Development’ (ABCD) and it is delivered by members of the Forever Manchester team they call ‘Community Builders’. Typically, they work in an area for two years and our work follows a five-staged approach which is repeated time and time again as they meet more and more people.

All the major ingredients that make for a happy, fulfilling life grow out of our communities. Real community thrives on taking part, where passion and shared interests are the key ingredients. Real community delivers a set of unrivalled opportunities — to connect, make friends, share, interact, help, care and discover — things that you just can’t replicate with government or corporate strategy.

Real community helps deepen and refine our sense of inclusion, belonging and place, it brings out the best in us. Our role at Forever Manchester is to be the champion of local people who are prepared to do extraordinary things to make our communities thrive, and to make sure that the talents, skills and interests that they all possess get a chance to be put into action.
