Help End Cruelty to Animals this May by Voting for OneKind!
OneKind is delighted to be taking part in the My Favourite Voucher Codes poll this May, hoping to receive the most votes from the public to win 20% of My Favourite Voucher Codes profits. OneKind has been dedicated to promoting animal welfare and ending animal cruelty since 1911. The charity advocates for stronger protection for animals through high-profile campaign and investigation work, education, and advocacy. OneKind’s work covers wildlife, animals used in research and entertainment, companion animals and animals farmed for food. They work tirelessly to raise awareness of animal welfare issues and promote compassionate and responsible treatment of all animals. They rely on the generosity and support of the public to fund their ongoing work, so this win would have a great impact on the work OneKind can achieve.
What Does OneKind Do?
OneKind has been a champion for animal protection for over a century. Originally founded by the Ivory sisters as the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Vivisection, the organisation has since evolved to cover all types of animal cruelty. They have been instrumental in delivering stronger protection for animals through a variety of approaches, including high-profile campaigns, political lobbying, investigations, public education and promoting compassionate living. OneKind’s work is firmly grounded in current scientific evidence and fueled by a dedicated community of supporters. The organisation collaborates with like-minded organisations across the UK, Europe and globally to create a world in which humans empathise with other animals and treat them with kindness, dignity and compassion.
OneKind's small team of seven works tirelessly to raise awareness of current welfare issues, engage the public through online campaigns and petitions, and lobby the government to effect meaningful change that delivers protection for all animals.
What Campaigns are OneKind Involved In?
This incredible charity have been vital in advancing animal welfare in Scotland and the UK. The organisation played a pivotal role in securing an end to the use of wild animals in traveling circuses, making Scotland the first UK country to do so. Their decades-long campaign finally saw an end to the “sport” of fox hunting, and they also succeeded in securing a commitment to ban the use and sale of glue traps which cause immeasurable suffering to animals. In 2020, OneKind's efforts led to the end of the mass killing of 26,000 mountain hares each year on Scottish Grouse Moors.
In 2022, OneKind partnered with Cruelty Free International and Animal Free Research UK to collect over 100,000 petition signatures calling for the UK government to commit to a plan to phase out animal experimentation. Additionally, they have long been an advocate for a ban on the live export of farmed animals, and supported Compassion in World Farming's "End the Cage Age" campaign to ban the use of cages for farmed animals.
Currently, OneKind is leading a coalition to end greyhound racing in Scotland and continues to work tirelessly to ban the use and sale of snares - cruel traps that injure, cause distress, and sometimes kill animals caught within them.
