Voting For The Crescent
The Crescent is an independently funded charity, founded on the first World AIDS Day in 1988. We have been providing care and support for those living with, or affected by, HIV for almost 30 years.
We are a member led organisation with the majority of our staff, volunteers, and board members either living with, affected by HIV. In this way we ensure that the services we provide are appropriate for those living with the condition. Based in St Albans, Hertfordshire, we provide services for members across the home counties, as well as online support for members in other parts of the UK.
Services include HIV testing, counselling, advocacy and advice on a range of topics including medication, nutrition, side effects, benefits, housing, social groups, awareness and prevention work, education services for schools, universities and the wider community, outreach services, free condom distribution, signposting and placements for social work and nursing students.
We have been a self funded organisation since 2010 when our regular funding ceased. We are entirely reliant upon the generosity of the general public, and other donors, to continue with our work supporting some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
