What Is WAY Widowed and Young?
Widowed and Young is the only national UK charity that is dedicated to supporting people who have lost a partner at age 50 or under. WAY aims to provide peer-to-peer emotional and practical support to ALL young widowed people – whether married or not, whether they have children or not - inclusive of gender, sexual orientation, race and religion.
Being widowed at any age is devastating, and having resources to help people through the pain of losing a loved one is essential. Widowed and Young was started by Caroline Sarll, whose sister was widowed at 35, after she realised that there were no resources dedicated to helping young widows. The first Widowed and Young meeting took place in Wales in 1997.
Today, WAY runs a UK-wide peer-support network for young widows to come together and meet others who have been widowed at a young age too. Widowed and Young provides a lifeline for many young widowed people and an outlet to discuss what they are going through, share experiences, work through bereavement, socialise and adjust to life after losing a partner.

How Does WAY Support People?
There are more than 4,700 members of Widowed and Young all over the UK, and they are all a part of the WAY community, which seeks to provide peer-support to those who have lost a partner at a young age.
Widowed and Young members and volunteers organise local meet ups in 62 different areas across the UK. There are also national WAY meetings, as well as online communities including a closed Facebook group and members-only website. This allows people a safe space to open up about their grief with others who have also experienced the loss of a partner at a young age.
People who’ve been widowed before their 51st birthday in the UK can join Widowed and Young for £25 per year, which helps the charity to maintain their peer-to-peer services. However, if you struggle to pay this, Widowed and Young also offers financial support to help towards the joining fee as well as helping to attend WAY-organised events.
