How Much Do Clear Aligners Cost in the UK?
If you're thinking about straightening your teeth without traditional braces, clear aligners are probably one of the options you've been considering. They're discreet, removable and offered by a growing number of UK dental providers. But once you start comparing prices, it can be difficult to know whether you're getting a good deal. Is a £995 treatment really comparable to one costing £4,000 or more, and what are you actually paying for?
That's what we've been looking into. We've compared published clear aligner prices from SmileWhite, Total Orthodontics and several Bupa dental practices, looking at different treatment packages, what's included and potential extra costs. Our aim is to help you understand where the real savings are, without choosing a treatment purely because it has the lowest advertised price.
If SmileWhite is on your shortlist, our Smile White Voucher Codes page also features an exclusive 10% discount on eligible treatment packages.

How Much Do Clear Aligners Cost in the UK?
There is no single UK price for invisible braces or clear aligners. Some providers publish prices for limited corrections, while others advertise Invisalign treatment across several levels of complexity. The amount of work required, the dental practice and the services included can all affect what you pay.
We checked the providers' publicly advertised prices rather than relying on general industry estimates. The differences are worth seeing.
| Provider | Price | Treatment |
|---|---|---|
| SmileWhite Refresh | £995 | Very minor relapse |
| SmileWhite Mild | £1,995 | Limited correction |
| SmileWhite Moderate | £2,795 | Moderate crowding |
| SmileWhite Complex | £3,695 | More complex crowding |
| Bupa Clifton | From £3,272 | Invisalign |
| Total Orthodontics | £3,350–£5,500 | Invisalign range |
| Bupa Sale | From £4,035 | Invisalign |
| Bupa London Bank | From £4,920 | Invisalign |

These figures reveal something important. At three Bupa practices, advertised Invisalign starting prices vary by more than £1,600. That does not necessarily mean the same treatment is cheaper at one practice. Package scope, the patient's needs and included services may differ. We would need comparable treatment quotations to establish which provider actually offers the lowest final price.
SmileWhite's £995 Refresh package is particularly restricted: it is intended for very minor relapse involving no more than one or two teeth. It is not a cheaper equivalent to comprehensive Invisalign treatment. The British Orthodontic Society advises that an appropriate orthodontic assessment is essential before choosing an appliance.
What Affects the Cost of Clear Aligners?
The biggest factor is the treatment required. Straightening a couple of teeth that have moved after previous braces is very different from correcting more widespread crowding or a bite problem.
SmileWhite's range illustrates this neatly. Its Refresh package covers a very limited correction with up to four aligners. Mild treatment is intended for smaller gaps or corrections involving a few teeth. Moderate and Complex packages cover more involved treatment needs and are priced accordingly. SmileWhite explains the package differences here.
There can also be differences in how treatment is delivered. A quote might include an initial assessment, scans, progress appointments, refinements and retainers. Another provider could include some of these but charge separately for others.

A professional assessment should come before choosing a package. The cheapest plan is no bargain if it cannot provide the treatment you need.
What's Included in Clear Aligner Treatment — and What Costs Extra?
This is one of the easiest places to overlook the real cost. An advertised package price is useful, but only when you understand what it covers.
| Cost | What to establish |
|---|---|
| Consultations and scans | Are all examinations, digital scans and necessary X-rays covered? |
| Refinements | Are extra aligners included if the planned correction needs adjustment? |
| Retainers | How many sets are included, and what do replacements cost? |
| Preparatory dental work | Could cleaning or other treatment be required before starting? |
| Whitening | Is whitening included, optional or subject to clinical eligibility? |
SmileWhite includes one set of removable retainers and describes clinically eligible refinements as part of its aligner treatment. It also states that a scale and polish, where recommended by the dentist, may cost extra. Its usual published charge is £195. This is not a compulsory charge for every customer. Source: SmileWhite treatment FAQs.
The difference is easy to calculate. A £2,795 treatment with a separately charged £195 scale and polish becomes £2,990 before discounts or any other dental work. Someone who does not need the cleaning would not incur that extra £195.
There is also a discrepancy worth flagging. SmileWhite's main pricing section promotes whitening as part of its packages, while its FAQ describes it as an occasional gift depending on the dentist's assessment. We would want that clarified in writing before assigning a monetary value to the advertised benefit.
For the other providers in our comparison, we have not established a complete itemised list of included services for every treatment tier. Their advertised prices should therefore be treated as starting points, not confirmed all-inclusive costs.
Are Clear Aligners Cheaper Than Fixed Braces?
Not always. We checked Total Orthodontics because it publishes prices for Invisalign, metal braces and ceramic braces, making it possible to compare different treatments within the same provider group.
| Treatment | Published range |
|---|---|
| Invisalign Express | £3,350–£4,775 |
| Invisalign Comprehensive | £4,000–£5,500 |
| Fixed metal braces | £2,255–£4,200 |
| Ceramic fixed braces | £2,650–£4,500 |
Source: Total Orthodontics published treatment prices. The fixed-brace prices refer to a single arch; the categories are not directly interchangeable treatment quotations.
At this provider, metal braces have a lower advertised starting price than Invisalign. That is useful to know, but not enough to establish which treatment would cost less for a particular patient. A fixed-brace quote for one arch cannot fairly be compared with a comprehensive aligner treatment involving both arches.
For someone weighing up removable invisible braces against fixed alternatives, the next step is to request quotations for both where clinically suitable, based on the same treatment goals. The British Orthodontic Society explains that some more complex cases may require techniques beyond clear aligners alone.
Can You Pay Monthly for Clear Aligners?
Some dental providers let customers spread the cost, sometimes using interest-free credit. That can make a large treatment bill easier to manage, but monthly affordability and the final price are different things.
SmileWhite advertises its £1,995 Mild package at £66.50 per month over 30 months at 0% APR representative. It also advertises a £2,795 Moderate package with a 30-month interest-free finance example, subject to eligibility and the lender's terms. Source: SmileWhite finance information.
Total Orthodontics advertises 0% APR finance for eligible terms of up to 36 months, while longer advertised repayment arrangements may involve interest. Source: Total Orthodontics finance terms.
Before selecting a payment plan, compare the cash price with the total amount repayable. Ask about deposits, any interest charges and whether a promotional discount remains available when paying by finance. The smallest monthly payment is not necessarily the cheapest arrangement.

How Can You Save Money on Clear Aligner Treatment?
Comparing real quotations is a better starting point than chasing the biggest advertised discount. We found different Invisalign starting prices across Bupa practices, which demonstrates why it is worth checking more than one provider. Just make sure the treatment scope and included appointments are comparable.
There are other practical savings to consider. A package with retainers already included might prove better value than a cheaper quotation that excludes them. Preparatory dental work can change the bill too. And if finance is available, the total repayable matters more than the apparent saving from a lower monthly instalment.
A current SmileWhite saving: My Favourite Voucher Codes has an exclusive merchant-supplied code, giving 10% off eligible purchases. Applied to an eligible £1,995 Mild package, that would save £199.50 and reduce the advertised price to £1,795.50. This is a calculation based on the published package price, not a completed treatment quotation. Eligibility, exclusions and any interaction with finance must be checked before payment.

How Much Do Retainers Cost After Clear Aligner Treatment?
Retainers are part of the longer-term cost of straightening your teeth. The British Orthodontic Society explains that retainers help prevent teeth returning towards their previous positions after orthodontic treatment.
SmileWhite includes one set of removable retainers with its aligner packages. We could not establish a reliable, current replacement price for every provider in the comparison, so we would not quote a general UK replacement cost. Ask what additional sets cost and whether ongoing checks are included. It is a small detail compared with the initial treatment price, but one worth settling before you begin.
What Should You Check Before Agreeing to Treatment?
Once you have a proposed treatment plan, ask for the full written price, including any likely preparatory work, refinements, retainers and follow-up appointments. You should also understand what happens if treatment needs to change.
Cancellation terms deserve attention. SmileWhite's published policy includes conditions affecting its voluntary guarantee after a treatment plan has been accepted and bespoke aligner manufacture begins. It also lists a £79 missed-appointment charge. Read SmileWhite's published refund policy.
A clear quotation should make it possible to compare your options without relying on advertising headlines. If the proposed treatment costs more than the original starting price, you should know why before agreeing.
Clear Aligner Costs: Frequently Asked Questions
Can you get clear aligners on the NHS?
Adults usually have to pay privately for orthodontic treatment. NHS braces are generally available to eligible children under 18 who meet clinical-need criteria. The NHS normally provides fixed braces, although other appliances may be offered depending on the case. Clear aligners should not be assumed to be available through NHS treatment. Source: NHS braces guidance.
How much do clear aligners cost for just a few teeth?
Prices depend on the correction required. SmileWhite advertises its Refresh package at £995 for very minor relapse involving one or two teeth, while its £1,995 Mild package is intended for limited corrections involving a few teeth. These are treatment-specific prices, not a general cost per tooth. A dentist must assess whether either package is suitable. Source: SmileWhite treatment packages.
Are clear aligners cheaper than Invisalign?
Invisalign is a brand of clear aligner, so the question is really whether another provider's clear aligner treatment costs less than an Invisalign package. Our published-price comparison shows less expensive starting packages at SmileWhite than at several Invisalign providers, but the treatments are not necessarily equivalent. Compare the recommended treatment scope and complete quotation, not just the starting price. SmileWhite treatment prices; Total Orthodontics Invisalign prices.
