SmileWhite vs Invisalign: Which Is Cheaper in the UK?
If you're thinking about straightening your teeth, you've probably come across Invisalign. It's one of the better-known names in clear aligners, but it's certainly not the only option. SmileWhite offers a potentially cheaper alternative, which raises an obvious question: are you paying more for Invisalign because it's a recognised brand, or are there genuine differences in what you get for your money?
That's what we've been looking into. SmileWhite clear aligners start at £995, while Invisalign Express starts at £3,350 at Total Orthodontics. Those prices might suggest an easy winner, but the treatments aren't necessarily comparable. We've examined published UK prices, treatment packages, appointments, retainers and potential extra charges to help you understand where the better value might lie.
If SmileWhite is on your shortlist, our Smile White Voucher Codes page also features an exclusive 10% discount on eligible purchases.

Research updated: 20 October 2026. We compared published prices and treatment details from SmileWhite, Invisalign and UK dental practices. How Much Does SmileWhite Cost Compared with Invisalign?
SmileWhite offers four priced treatment packages. Invisalign works differently: the Invisalign system is provided through participating dental professionals, who determine the price according to the treatment required. There isn't one nationwide Invisalign price.
SmileWhite's advertised prices range from £995 for a very minor relapse to £3,595 for its Complex package. Total Orthodontics publishes Invisalign Express and Comprehensive price ranges, while individual practices also advertise their own fees.
Price sources: SmileWhite aligner prices; Total Orthodontics treatment prices; Total Orthodontics Cranbrook practice fees. Prices checked October 2026. Individual treatment quotations may differ.
The Cranbrook prices are a particularly useful reminder that national starting prices are not guaranteed at every practice. Total Orthodontics advertises Invisalign Comprehensive from £4,000–£5,500 on its general pricing page, while Cranbrook lists the treatment at £5,885.
That £385 difference above the national range's upper figure illustrates why we wouldn't use a brand-wide price range as a guaranteed local quotation.
SmileWhite has lower advertised prices across its package range, but that doesn't establish that an individual patient could receive an equivalent treatment for less. We need to look at the actual correction required and what's included in the price.
What's the Difference Between SmileWhite and Invisalign?
Both use transparent, removable aligners to move teeth according to a dentist's treatment plan. The distinction is between the aligner systems, the practices delivering treatment and the packages being purchased.
SmileWhite begins with a free online consultation. If the customer proceeds, a partner dentist carries out an oral health examination, X-rays and 3D scans. The aligners are fitted at a later appointment, with progress reviews and an appointment to remove attachments when treatment finishes.
SmileWhite says patients have a minimum of three in-clinic appointments, with additional visits where their treatment requires them. Those treatment-related visits are included in its published package arrangements. Source: SmileWhite treatment FAQs.
With Invisalign, treatment is arranged through an Invisalign-trained dental professional. The dentist examines the patient's needs, develops the treatment plan and decides how appointments and monitoring will work. The dentist also determines the treatment fee. Source: Invisalign treatment-cost information.

Neither model removes the need for professional assessment and follow-up. What differs is the specific package and the care arrangements offered by the treating practice.
For someone comparing prices, it's worth establishing which appointments are included, whether the same dentist oversees the treatment and how additional visits are handled. These questions matter more than assuming that one aligner brand provides less clinical care than another.
What's Included in SmileWhite and Invisalign Treatment?
SmileWhite publishes a relatively detailed list of package inclusions. Invisalign patients need to establish what their particular practice provides, because those arrangements aren't set by one nationwide retail price.
SmileWhite confirms that one set of removable retainers is included. It also covers refinements where clinically eligible, together with dental visits required by the agreed treatment plan. Source: SmileWhite FAQs.
There are exceptions to the package price. A scale and polish, if recommended separately by the dentist, usually costs £195 at SmileWhite. Other preparatory dental treatment can also be chargeable.
SmileWhite's main product page promotes professional whitening as included, yet its detailed FAQ says whitening is occasionally gifted and depends on the dentist confirming clinical suitability. We wouldn't treat it as a guaranteed £795 benefit when comparing quotations. Source: SmileWhite product page.
How Much Could Replacement Retainers Cost?
Retainers are an important ongoing expense because they help prevent teeth moving back after treatment. SmileWhite provides the initial removable set and says replacements are available through the treating dentist or its retainer subscription service. Its FAQ assigns the included set a value of £200, but that isn't a confirmed price for buying a replacement set. Source: SmileWhite retainer FAQs.
For an independent example, Total Orthodontics Cranbrook publishes removable retainers at £320 per arch and fixed retainers at £395 per arch. A pair of removable retainers priced at £320 for each arch would therefore cost £640. These are separately listed practice fees, not proof that every Invisalign customer has to pay £640 after treatment. Source: Cranbrook published fees, October 2026.
That distinction matters. A practice might include the first retainers in its treatment price, while charging later for replacements. We'd establish both amounts before accepting a quote.
Which Offers Better Value for Mild or Complex Teeth Straightening?
Comparing similar treatment levels is more meaningful than putting SmileWhite's cheapest package against the most expensive Invisalign option.
Minor Corrections: SmileWhite Refresh and Invisalign Express
SmileWhite's £995 Refresh package is intended for very minor relapse, with up to four aligners. Its £1,995 Mild package covers limited corrections involving a few teeth.
Total Orthodontics describes Invisalign Express as suitable for very mild cases or relapse, with up to seven aligners. It also lists Invisalign Comp Lite for mild cases, with up to 14 aligners. Its published general price range for Express is £3,350–£4,775. Source: Total Orthodontics Invisalign treatment tiers.
This shows a genuine pricing difference between published limited-treatment options. However, SmileWhite Refresh and Invisalign Express aren't automatically interchangeable merely because both are intended for minor corrections.
For someone with slight movement following previous braces, SmileWhite's limited packages could offer a lower-cost option where clinically suitable. A dental assessment is needed before assuming either would correct the problem.
Moderate and Complex Cases: Comparing Treatment Levels
SmileWhite's £2,695 Moderate package is aimed at moderately crowded teeth and can include bite correction. Its £3,595 Complex package is designed for more generalised crowding and more involved cases.
Total Orthodontics describes Invisalign Moderate as suitable for mild-to-moderate cases, with up to 20 aligners, while Invisalign Comprehensive covers a wider range of cases and offers an unlimited number of aligners within the published treatment category. Source: Total Orthodontics treatment categories.
The Cranbrook practice lists Invisalign Moderate from £5,180 and Comprehensive at £5,885. These are substantially above SmileWhite's corresponding advertised package prices, but the treatment limits and clinical arrangements differ.
For more complicated orthodontic needs, the correct comparison is between actual treatment plans recommended for the same patient's teeth. A lower published price is an advantage only if the proposed treatment is suitable and the total cost is understood.
SmileWhite vs Invisalign: Which Has Cheaper Monthly Payments?
Both treatment routes can offer monthly finance, but the terms and eligibility differ.
SmileWhite advertises the Mild package at £66.50 per month over 30 months at 0% APR representative. The Moderate package is shown at approximately £89.83 per month over 30 months at 0% APR representative, based on its £2,695 cash price. Check the lender's complete representative example because displayed monthly instalments can be rounded. Source: SmileWhite finance information.
Total Orthodontics Cranbrook offers eligible 0% APR finance over periods of up to 36 months, while some 48- and 60-month plans are advertised at 7.9% APR. Source: Cranbrook finance options.
Spreading payments can help with affordability. It doesn't automatically make treatment cheaper. Compare the cash price, any deposit, interest and total repayable rather than focusing on the lowest monthly figure.
We would also confirm whether any promotional saving can be used alongside a finance agreement, instead of assuming discounts can be combined.

How Can You Save Money on SmileWhite or Invisalign?
We found meaningful differences between published package prices, but the real saving comes from comparing what you actually need. A suitable limited-treatment plan may cost considerably less than comprehensive orthodontics. That doesn't mean somebody needing complex correction should choose a smaller package to reduce the bill.
Obtain a written treatment quotation and check what's included. Initial retainers, replacement retainers, refinements and any necessary dental work can all affect the final amount. The Cranbrook retainer prices are a useful example of why these details shouldn't be overlooked.
SmileWhite also has an exclusive saving available through My Favourite Voucher Codes. Our merchant-supplied offer provides 10% off eligible purchases. Applied to an eligible £2,695 Moderate package, that would represent a £269.50 saving and a potential price of £2,425.50. This calculation assumes the discount applies to that package and payment method and is successfully accepted.
You'll find the current offer and its conditions on our Smile White Voucher Codes page. We also explain how we test and review voucher codes.
The discount improves SmileWhite's published price where eligible, but it doesn't resolve clinical differences. We'd still compare the treatment plan, included appointments and longer-term costs before making a decision.
What Should You Check Before Choosing an Aligner Provider?
Before agreeing to treatment, make sure the written quotation identifies the proposed correction, included appointments, refinements, retainers and any additional work your dentist expects you to need.
Cancellation arrangements also deserve attention. SmileWhite's voluntary guarantee has conditions relating to treatment-plan approval and manufacture of bespoke aligners. Its published policy lists a £79 charge for missed appointments. Source: SmileWhite refund and cancellation policy.
The best-value choice is the one that provides suitable treatment at a cost you understand. Our price research is useful for identifying questions to ask, but it cannot replace an individual assessment or a complete quotation from the treating dentist.
SmileWhite vs Invisalign: Frequently Asked Questions
Is SmileWhite cheaper than Invisalign?
SmileWhite advertises lower starting prices than the Invisalign providers included in our comparison. Its packages start at £995, while Total Orthodontics advertises Invisalign Express from £3,350. These aren't necessarily equivalent treatment plans, however. The cost for a particular patient depends on the correction required and the dentist's quotation. SmileWhite prices; Total Orthodontics prices.
Is SmileWhite the same as Invisalign?
No. Both offer transparent, removable aligner treatment, but they are different systems. SmileWhite provides its own treatment packages through partner dentists, while Invisalign is a separate aligner brand supplied by participating dental professionals. Treatment planning, package arrangements and costs vary. SmileWhite treatment; Invisalign treatment.
Are retainers included with SmileWhite and Invisalign?
SmileWhite includes one set of removable retainers with its clear aligner packages. Invisalign retainer arrangements depend on the treating dental practice and the agreed quotation. For example, Total Orthodontics Cranbrook separately lists removable retainers at £320 per arch, but that doesn't mean all Invisalign patients pay this in addition to their treatment package. SmileWhite FAQs; Cranbrook practice fees.
Can you pay for SmileWhite or Invisalign with 0% finance?
Eligible customers may be able to access 0% APR finance for either treatment. SmileWhite publishes representative interest-free monthly repayment examples, while Total Orthodontics offers eligible 0% APR plans of up to 36 months. Finance depends on the provider and credit eligibility, so compare the total amount repayable. SmileWhite finance; Total Orthodontics finance.
