Why Could The New £5 Note Could Be Worth More?
The new £5 note has recently been brought into circulation and people are already selling their notes for £200. Despite the note being the lowest valued note in the UK, many have got rather excited over their emergence.
Who’d have thought they’d be so much excitement over a measly £5? This new version has caused a bit of a stir and many have taken to eBay. With the introduction of these notes happening just over a week ago, it seems as though some of these five pounds could be worth more than you think. You can find a dozen of them spread across auction sites with some being priced for as much as £200.
Is Your Note Worth More?
The key is to find the earliest five-pound notes, so if you are wondering if your money could be worth £200 then check the serial number. This will reveal whether collectors are interested in your five pound. The Queen got the first note with the number AA01 000001, so any that are close to that will most likely be worth the most. It could be worth collecting it and watching the note accrue value. Two note haves already been sold for around the £200 mark, with some speculating that people are just putting them up and not actually receiving money for their note, wrong! Here’s two incidents of the notes being sold for a lot more, one went for £200 and this for £196.
What’s New?
What’s with this sudden craze? Well, much of it is down to the forethought and how it’s expected that the first notes in production will eventually be worth a lot of money as a collector’s item. But this unusual addition to the English currency boasts more than just a greater value. These bizarre looking notes almost replicate the style of Monopoly money. They are made from Polymer, which is a type of plastic, and are almost untearable. You won’t have to worry about your money getting wet either as this note has a waterproof coating and isn’t easy to damage, although you should be warned when leaving them in your pocket and then placing your jeans in your dryer.
The old note is slowly being phased out and they’ll be accepted until 2017. The new note will have over 400 million printed. They are expected to be more durable and could even last for five years longer than the original five-pound note.
