Support The Toy Project this August and Help Children Access Toys, Books and Learning Workshops
You can support children in the UK, India, Africa and the Caribbean to access toys and resources with The Toy Project. This August, the Toy Project is taking part in the My Favourite Voucher Codes charity poll, competing to win a donation of 20% of our profits! Learn more about how The Toy Project supports disadvantaged children below, and find out how your vote can help.
What Do The Toy Project Do?
The Toy Project takes in donations of children’s toys and distributes them amongst kids who need it the most, including local families in London as well as those in India, Africa and the Caribbean. They also sell some of the donations in their shop in order to fund their projects which further help children and families who are struggling to engage in community activities, enjoy play and learning, have access to play and reading resources and learn about recycling and supporting others.
The Toy Project supports a variety of children and organisations which care for children such as schools and nurseries, community centres, hospitals and hospices, migrant, refugee and women’s refuge centres, homeless families, children with complex needs and many more. They are dedicated to helping children in all walks of life who, for any reason, are unable to access toys, books and learning opportunities.
The Projects
The Toy Project runs and participates in a variety of projects to help bring happiness, creativity and opportunities to kids around the world. The types of projects they are involved in include:
- Community murals (e.g in hospitals and prison visitors centres)
- Toy fairs
- Stalls at local events
- Toy libraries in schools
- Furniture supplies for nurseries
- Puppet projects
Their toys, puppets, community projects and books all help children in a number of ways through storytelling. Wall art and murals can give life and positivity to places which are often frightening or sad places for children such as hospitals or prisons, whilst their toy libraries and puppet theatres help children of all abilities and ages to learn and enjoy reading through visual storytelling.
The Toy Project also support parents and children who are struggling in other ways through their projects, such as their work with the pram depot who supply prams and toys to newborns as well as their puppet project which helps children with special needs to learn through puppets and costumes. Their work with other organisations as well as schools and hospitals means that they can supply both practical items such as furniture for a nursery as well as projects for the children such as hospital visits for children by entertainers and face painters.
The Lego Events and Playroom Workshops
Alongside their fantastic projects to help children in need and raise funds, they also run a range of events that children and adults can participate in at their playroom.
The Toy Project hosts three Lego events, a Lego Club for children, a Lego Club for adults and a Lego Therapy session for children. They all take place at The Playroom, 99 Junction Road, London, N19 5QX and are completely free to take part in.
Lego therapy is designed to help children aged 5+ with communication and social issues to develop their communication skills through Lego, and work with other children in Lego building challenges. The adult Lego Club is for 18+ year old Lego enthusiasts to come and chat about Lego and have a go at building. Finally, the children’s Lego club is a place where any child aged 5+ can go and meet other kids, have fun and build some Lego creations.
Alongside their LEGO events, they also run a variety of other exciting, therapeutic educational and engaging workshops in their playroom. These events include arts and crafts workshops, Spanish classes, chess and games events, creative writing and mindfulness sessions.
You can find out more on their Events page and see when their next events are.
