What Does MHA Do?
MHA is Britain’s largest charity care provider and seeks to make later life something to be celebrated as well as lived well. Often, when people think of care for older people, it is focussed on the essential support they might need for physical and mental health issues without much focus on other aspects of life. At MHA, they help older people with those aspects of essential care as well as striving to help people to enjoy later life by creating memorable experience and comforting environments.
What Facilities does MHA Have for Older People?
Care Homes: MHA have several care homes including those dedicated to dementia care and nursing care as well as those for residential long stay residents and those looking for respite/short stays. They have care homes all over the UK, and their staff are all well equipped to offer the support needed. Their focus on activities and enrichment is key, and they have an award-winning music therapy programme for their dementia homes. They also have weekly activities scheduled at every one of their homes., as well as additional facilities at some locations such as hair salons and spas. Their holistic approach means that every individual gets the support they need whilst also being provided with engaging opportunities.
Retirement Living: They also offer a variety of Retirement Living options. These types of accommodation offer retirees the opportunity to live independently whilst accessing the support
and care that they need, as well as providing independence for individuals to socialise with others within the community. The facilities at each retirement village vary, but many offer cinemas, bistros, spas, and coffee lounges.
MHA Communities: They also provide care and support for those living independently in their own home. MHA Communities run a range of services to help people stay active, meet other people, learn new skills and have fun! This includes exercise classes and assisted shopping as well as craft demonstrations and life skills classes.
They have something for everyone, including online activities for those who live far or cannot physically attend, dementia friendly services and transport in the form of community minibuses to help people get out and about. They also have a befriending service as well as offer support to family members and loved ones.
The Wilderness: The Wilderness is a little different as it isn’t one of the MHA care and support facilities, but is instead a hidden heritage garden which service users and residents in and around South London can enjoy. There are a range of wild and wonderful parts of the garden to explore, and they use the garden as a learning, health and wellness area within which visitors can learn about the different ecosystems within and get in touch with nature.
