UFC 205 Could be the Biggest Event in History
With Conor McGregor’s last two outings proving to be the biggest in UFC history, the pattern could well continue. UFC 205's potential success on November 12th won’t be solely down to McGregor’s promotion, as there are some huge names on this card that sell themselves.
UFC 205 had its official press conference last night, just hours after they revealed that Conor McGregor would fight Eddie Alvarez for the title in his first ever-lightweight match-up. But, he won’t be single handily attracting views for this card as it already boasts some immense athletes. The all-star cast includes Tyron Woodley, Chris Weidman, Donald Cerrone, Miesha Tate and many more. This could prove to be the biggest spectacle in UFC's history.
UFC’s Historical Events
Conor McGregor features in the top five biggest UFC ratings three times. His last three fights all feature in the top five most pay per views. His first and second match-up with Nate Diaz attracted 1,500,000 and 1,650,000 buyrates respectively. You can understand why many forecast the next event to go one better as the McGregor phenomenon continues to gain momentum. It’s no coincidence that he gains so much attention either; we already highlighted many of his tactics and techniques that make him a marketing genius in a previous article. So what other events have famously gone down in the history books? Brock Lesnar had crossover appeal that led many wrestling fans over to his MMA contest against Randy Couture. But the upcoming maincard and undercard have an array of talented fighters featured, so this will undoubtedly rake in heaps of fans. It has already got people talking after the first presser, but with many more scheduled we will undoubtedly see many funny antics, from all involved.
Yesterday’s Press Conference
The last McGregor press conference was prematurely ended after he showed half an hour late, and then ended up launching bottles at Diaz and his team. This time round, cool heads prevailed (to an extent) and they exchanged taunts and trash talk instead of bottled water or energy drinks. Fans were out in force for this one, and some passionately shared their thoughts on the fights for November. See the video below, when personalities surfaced for this intriguing UFC gathering but do be warned there are some explicit slurs.
UFC 205
