About the You Raise Me Up Charity

The ‘You Raise Me Up charity’ was founded by the late Jane Brooks and her husband Fraser in June 2011. The whole purpose of You Raise Me Up is to raise money to help bereaved families that have suffered the loss of a young person aged between 16-25 years old. They are based in East Sussex and support families from East & West Sussex and Kent. The aim of the charity is to be able to provide compassion, support and simply to be able to say, “we totally understand” rather than “we cannot imagine what you are going through”.

What Services do You Raise Me Up Provide?

You Raise Me Up have trained, experienced counsellors available including child and adolescent counsellors to help people struggling with the loss of a young person through these dark times. They run monthly support groups, where people can meet other families going through similar emotions and by coming together they can start to feel less alone. The service and support YRMU offer has grown over the years, and they have been able to help more families with their essential support services. The impact that the death of a child has on the on mental health and wellbeing of surviving family members, is huge. You Raise Me Up charity supports them to survive that and stabilise their mental wellbeing, enabling them to function again in everyday life, and supports their lives going forward. They have multiple purpose support, all aimed at holding families together.

In the last 12 years the charity has grown from being run by an amazing group of people in their conservatory to a dedicated team that runs a support centre and office. The roots that were planted in the beginning have grown and are very strong, with the heart of our beliefs that drive them forward, always staying the same. You Raise Me Up have now supported over 400 families and the demand for their services are needed now more than ever.

You Raise Me Up will benefit from this donation in many ways, the charity do not receive any Government funding, and rely solely on the generosity of others, which means this donation will help towards the sustainability of the charity, enabling them to continue providing the essential services to families in need.
