Vote for Purple Oak Support to Empower People with Learning Disabilities, Physical Disabilities and Mental Health Need
You can help Purple Oak Support win a free donation this September by voting in the My Favourite Voucher Codes charity poll! That’s right, this incredible charity is one of our nominated charities this month, hoping to win a donation of 20% of our profits. They support people with a wide range of physical and learning disabilities, as well as those struggling with mental health issues, advocating for them and helping them access opportunities. They enable their service users to access support services, live more independently and learn key skills, and this September you can help by casting your free vote for this incredible charity.
Who Are Purple Oak Support?
Purple Oak Support began as the Anton Companions, which was created by parents who were searching for support and couldn’t find what they were looking for to support their families living with a child with a learning disability. They broke down barriers to establish the supported living model, meaning that people with learning disabilities could be part of the community rather than living in a medically based institution.
Since then, they have been serving the communities of Andover and the surrounding areas for 59 years. What started out as a concerned group of parents, whose children had a learning disability, has turned into a charity supporting people with a wide range of disabilities, which has had over 7000 people access their community services. They passionately advocate for inclusion of all.
What Services does Purple Oak Support Offer?
They are an independent, not for profit, community minded charity supporting and advocating for adults and children with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health support needs. They have a range of facilities which are a great asset to their town.
Their mission is to ‘support, equip and empower everyone to do more and be more’. This is at the centre of everything they do. The Purple Oak Support learning culture encourages people to see every day as an opportunity to learn something new, by either sharing alongside others, encouraging others to learn independently or by providing a framework of support to enable learning through activities and projects. They aim to maximise independence and enjoyment for the people they support. They organise fun days out as well as skill based learning. For example, their popular cooking workshops enable people to develop confidence, self-esteem and life-skills, whilst empowering them to take their next steps, including exploring further opportunities in the community.
Short Breaks: Purple Oak Support short breaks offer children and families the opportunity to relax, get away and enjoy an adventure. They provide children with learning disabilities a safe environment to play and try new things, and deliver a range of activities including sensory rooms, cinema trips, outdoor play events, seaside trips, bowling, museum visits and much more.
Bespoke Care Services: Their custom care services are individually catered for children and young people who need it, offering a variety of services for young people, children and their families. This might include home care services such as helping them get ready for the day with support in taking medication, washing, dressing, and anything else they need support for.
Rainbow Corner: Rainbow Corner is a children’s home which offers short breaks and day care for children aged 3-19 who have additional needs. The home is accessible and has had adaptations to make it suitable for the children who stay with them. Located in Andover, Rainbow Corner provides daytime, weekend or overnight stays for children and young people local to Andover. This helps the children and young people to enjoy a short break where they are fully provided with all the care that they need, and allows parents and carers to also have a break from their caring responsibilities, safe in the knowledge that their loved one is being properly supported.
How Would Purple Oak Support Use the Donation if they Won?
Purple Oak Support rely on the generosity of their supporters to ensure they can continue to be supportive to those that need them to live the life they choose as independently as possible. This includes making sure that events can run, purchasing support equipment for those in need, helping to provide bespoke care services in the home and in their children’s home and helping people build their skills through workshops.
