How SurvivorsUK Help Male Victims of Sexual Abuse
There are around 12,000 men who are raped every single year and over 75,000 who are abused or assaulted sexually. However, only an estimated 4% of male victims of sexual assault tell anyone about it. Those who do discuss their trauma, take around 26 years to talk about it.
SurvivorsUK is a national charity which offers specialised support to male victims of sexual assault, abuse and rape. They work with the aim of helping all male victims/survivors to talk to someone about their experiences, and know that they can seek help. They ensure their support services are easily accessible for those who need it, and is catered to the survivor to help them cope with the traumatic and destructive impact that rape and sexual assault can have on all areas of life.
SurvivorsUK gives practical information, emotional support and access to other services to help men or those worried about someone they know. They offer this through their website as well as a free helpline and social media. They helped over 2,000 people last year through these support services.
They remain the only organisation in the whole of London which offers services specialising in helping men; and offers services such as counselling and group therapy, Throughout London, they offer the only Independent Sexual Advisor service which is open to all men who are working with the criminal justice system.
