The winner of January's Poll is We Hear You and we will be donating £197.34 to this great Charity!

It’s our first charity poll of 2021! As usual, we have a line-up of four amazing charities all competing for your votes this January. Before we introduce you to them, we should of course say a massive congratulations to our winners for December - The Sussex Beacon! This wonderful charity supports people living with HIV in Sussex, and we will be announcing in April how much you lovely folks have helped us to raise through your Christmas shopping.

Let's Meet Our January Fantastic Four!

Action Duchenne

First of all, we have Action Duchenne, a charity that funds research into Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a life limiting condition that makes muscles more prone to damage and causes them to waste away over time. In addition to funding research and supporting clinical trials to help discover better treatments for Duchenne, the charity also brings together families affected by the condition, bringing them support, education, and building awareness within communities. Every penny raised for the charity goes towards funding life-changing research, ultimately bringing hope to more families affected by Duchenne, and we are delighted to be supporting this great cause for the month of January.

Dig Deep

Next, we have Dig Deep, a charity which works to bring opportunities to the people living in Kenya by providing them with access to safe toilets, clean water, and good hygiene. As a result of sickness caused by poor hygiene and dirty water, over 400 million school days are missed and over £200 billion is lost from the global economy. Children are unable to attend school and learn, while adults will struggle to provide for their families. Dig Deep’s main goal is to ensure that every resident in Kenya has access to clean water and safe toilets, as well as for hand washing with soap to be part of their daily routines. Ultimately, this will mean less children will miss out on education due to illness, and more adults have the opportunity to work and earn for their families. Since 2007, the charity has managed to reach 120,000 people in Kenya, providing them with clean water, and somewhere safe to go to the loo, and we want to help them continue their mission this January.

Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (GRASAC)

This January, we’re welcoming back Gloucestershire Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (GRASAC), who took part in our poll for January 2020. They provide a confidential service to those in Gloucestershire affected by sexual abuse or sexual violence, providing emotional and practical support to anyone affected at any point in their lives. This includes a telephone helpline, one to one support, and group activity programmes. Additionally, GRASAC also educates the public through information and workshops on the impact of rape and sexual abuse, working within businesses, schools and the community. We’re thrilled to be welcoming back GRASAC for a second year running in a bid to help them win 20% of this month’s profits.

We Hear You (WHY)

Finally, completing our January line-up, we have We Hear You (WHY). This Somerset based charity provides free, confidential support to anyone in Bath & North East Somerset affected by cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Through face to face counselling for adults and children, online sessions, mindfulness courses and outdoor therapies, the charity is there for individuals to provide emotional support, whether they have been diagnosed with or have been bereaved by a life threatening illness. Our regular users will remember that we supported WHY back in December 2019, and we are delighted to be welcoming them back for our first poll of 2021.
