5 Reasons Women’s Football is Better Than Men’s
You may have spotted the hashtag #GirlsFootballWeek or #WeCanPlay dotted about this week. That’s because it’s a week where we get to appreciate women’s football. It’s time to appreciate the beautiful game and how it connects everybody, regardless of gender.
With so much attention constantly on men’s athletes and the men’s football leagues, it only seems fair to highlight the reasons we should be thankful of ladies football. Here we bring to the forefront, the reasons that women’s football beats men’s. It’s all for fun and it’s all opinion based, we should support both sides of the game, but here we go…
More Role Models
There are a number of reasons for this; it could be down to the fact that men’s football has evolved into a game that isn’t always beautiful. Whenever there’s a sport or business that is worth so much money, there’s always going to be downfalls. You hear far less reports on the women footballers that are caught drink driving, in sex scandals and nightclub fights. Not only that, but many from the ladies’ leagues actively do a lot to encourage young girls to take part.
Not as Much Money
It’s an aspect we mentioned in the first point, that’s because the money involved in men’s football now is getting ridiculous. It’s not unheard of for players to be on 300k a week. There’s a lot that comes with that, big egos and very little loyalty. The days of being proud of wearing a badge just aren’t the same anymore. England’s Ladies team are on 23k a year, almost the average national wage. That in itself displays why they’re playing, they are there for pride and enjoyment, something that all fans will appreciate.
More Competition
Although men’s football is finally opening up, in general it’s pretty routine. Especially when you see the International teams play, but women’s football is always offering variety and competition. There are shocks and of course, there are still underdogs or favourite, but it’s more prone for a change. Despite the world cup only running for 24 years, three different continents have already won the legendary trophy.
A Better England Team
Since 1966, England fans have been through thick and thin, no, sorry just thin. Just like their current patience levels, but it’s a different story for England Ladies. It’s great to see one of our national teams doing so well, they really do give it their all too. The commitment cannot be questioned. They are currently ranked 6th in contrast to a 12th ranked men’s team. The incredible England Ladies put ten goals past Montenegro for a 10-0 win and 13 against Hungary.
Tickets are Cheaper
The game is still accessible for fans, which don’t need to worry about being setback by almost £100 to watch one game. That’s right- Arsenal fans have to pay £97 for some games this year and that’s cheaper than last season. But tickets for the ladies game usually come to around £15 for adults and not much more than a pound for children. Those ticket prices are based on the England team’s game that attracted their highest attendance, so why wouldn’t you watch the sixth ranked country play at that price?
