Help Rescue and Rehome Animals in Need by Voting for The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home This November
Every month My Favourite Voucher Codes nominates four charities to take part in our monthly charity poll. During the month, the public can cast their free votes for the charity they want to see win. The charity that gets the most votes will win a fantastic donation of 20% of our profits!
Everyone gets a vote, and it's 100% free to do. This all sounds great of course but... what if you don't know who to vote for? Well, we have you covered. We will be introducing each of our charities with a complete biography about the charity, telling you what they do, what their donations support and why you should vote for them.
First up for November 2023... the Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home!
The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home
The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home rescue, care for, rehabilitate, and rehome animals across Gloucestershire, taking in over 1,000 animals every year. They have been looking after vulnerable animals for over 80 years, rescuing homeless pets and helping them find their forever homes. They also help to ensure no animal is left suffering due to finances. They do this by helping families with low income to get veterinary care through their affordable veterinary clinics. They rescue cats, dogs and small animals such as rabbits and guinea pigs, ensuring each animal is matched with their ideal forever home.
Who Are the The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home?
The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home is a branch of the RSPCA covering Cotswolds, Gloucester and district. Although affiliated with the national RSPCA, the organisation is independently run. Therefore all their funds come from the local community and a network of 9 charity shops.
They work to find forever homes for homeless cats, dogs and small furries around Gloucestershire. Their team matches the animals with appropriate homes to make sure that the animal and their new family live a long and happy life together. Every adoption also comes with an adoption pack too, which includes the adoption fee, microchip, full vaccinations, flea and worming treatments, a full week's supply of food and £25 to spend in their shops!
Their low cost vet clinics are available to those in receipt of a means tested benefit, such as income support, jobseekers allowance or housing benefit. Although they cannot offer the full range of veterinary services, they can offer preventative treatments as well as helping with the cost of veterinary treatments. Their financial help vouchers can help offset the cost of veterinary treatment by 25%, whilst their neutering vouchers can save low income families up to £90.
The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home also have 9 charity shops which are located around Gloucestershire, selling items such as clothing, furniture, electrical goods, beauty items and homewares. All money from the sales of items in their charity shops goes towards the rescue and rehoming of vulnerable animals.
What Is the New Animal Centre and Pet Retreat Scheme?
In September 2016 The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home proudly opened the doors to a brand-new animal centre which takes in over 250 animals who have suffered abuse, neglect and abandonment every year. Aside from rehoming, one of their main objectives is to carry out direct animal welfare work in the county. A significant part of their work is supporting animals living in the community belonging to families on low incomes, ensuring animals do not suffer from neglect because of cost. Their low cost vet clinic helps around 800 animals every year.
This year, The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home have launched a ‘Pet Retreat Scheme’. This scheme is a service whereby pets can be placed in foster homes in cases where their owner is fleeing domestic abuse or is confronted by other life-altering events. This ensures that pets are cared for in times of crisis, giving the animal the care they need and the owner peace of mind that their animal will be looked after. This service enables people to flee from abuse, undergo emergency treatment or take care of any other life changing events, without worry for their animal. This service ensures that the animal will return to their owner when they are in a position to care for them again, and the service comes at no charge to the person in need.
What Do The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home Do?
The charity’s main organisational aims are to:
- Rescue ill-treated cats and dogs throughout the Gloucester and Cotswolds area.
- Help abandoned animals who are found injured. Find new homes for hundreds of unwanted animals each year.
- Provide a low-cost veterinary service and help vouchers to disadvantaged members of the community.
- Give help and advice to members of the community through their campaigns and events.
- Encourage responsible pet ownership by offering services such as neutering and microchipping, helping to prevent more unwanted or lost animals. Increase opportunities for employment, work placement and volunteering.
How is The Cotswolds Dogs & Cats Home Funded?
While they are run by the South Cotswolds branch of the RSPCA and affiliated with the national charity, The Cotswolds Dogs and Cats Home is an independent charity. This means that any donations generously given from supporters and from within the community stay directly with charity. Every penny helps ensure that the animals they’re home to get all of the love and care that they need.
