Help SARSAS Continue Providing Support to Survivors of Rape and Sexual Abuse

Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (SARSAS) is the specialist support service for survivors of rape and sexual abuse across Bristol, Bath, Somerset, North East Somerset, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire. In total, this is a population of 1.6 million people. SARSAS work with women, men, children and young people covering an age range of 13-95 years old. In this region, 84 people will be raped or seriously sexually assaulted every week. That’s 12 people a day or one person every two hours. 

How SARSAS Help Survivors of Rape and Sexual Abuse

SARSAS exists to provide life changing support to those that have experienced the devastating impacts of rape and sexual abuse, at any time of their lives. Helping them to feel that they are not only surviving but hopefully thriving in recovery. For some (many) clients, the impact of rape or sexual abuse can affect all aspects of their lives for years, decades, or forever. It impacts on emotional and psychological well-being and development, family and relationships, work and career, and mental health. In extreme cases sexual violence is the identifiable trigger point leading to future substance misuse, domestic violence relationships, professional sex working and even homelessness.

SARSAS Ethos: Listening, Believing & Supporting

SARSAS provides a range of support including emotional support, practical information, tools and resources. In the last year they had well over 1000 referrals and supported over 300 women face to face through counselling, support work and group work. In addition, they answered a further 3000 calls to their telephone helpline and responded to 400 emails in their E-Support service.
