The name "Ickle Pickles" might bring a smile to your face, but the reality these tiny warriors face is far from light-hearted. And this charity help them in many incredible ways. 

Ickle Pickles is a registered children's charity dedicated to supporting the most vulnerable members of our society; premature and sick babies who require intensive care in Neonatal Units (NNUs) across England and Wales.

The statistics are hard to hear, that’s for sure. One in thirteen babies in the UK is born prematurely each year. These little babies often require specialised equipment as well as constant monitoring and expert medical care to overcome health challenges and thrive.

Equipping Neonatal Units: Providing a Lifeline for Fragile Lives

Ickle Pickles understands the enormous impact that having truly well-equipped Neonatal Units has on very vulnerable newborns. That's why one of their core missions as a charity is fundraising to provide life-saving and life-changing equipment for hospitals.

This equipment includes:

• Incubators – Temperature-controlled environments that recreate the warmth, and protection of the womb.
• Specialist Monitoring Equipment – Devices that continuously monitor heart rate, breathing and oxygen levels. This allows medical staff to respond immediately when needed.
• Respiratory Support Equipment – Including ventilators and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machines for babies who need help breathing.
• Phototherapy Lamps – Used to safely treat neonatal jaundice.

Alongside these essentials, Ickle Pickles also helps fund other essentials including specialist feeding equipment and developmental aids that directly improve outcomes for premature and sick babies.

Ickle Pickles also recognises the incredible dedication of neonatal nurses, doctors, medical staff, and specialists, along with the families caring for premature babies.

The charity supports neonatal care through initiatives including:

• The Ickle Pickles Pledge – A partnership between Ickle Pickles and individual neonatal units to raise an agreed amount each year for the equipment those units need most.
• Mental Health and Wellbeing Support – Working in neonatal care can be emotionally demanding. Ickle Pickles offers peer-to-peer wellbeing support for healthcare professionals while also helping families navigate one of the most challenging experiences imaginable.
