How Your Vote for Pause Can Help Create Space for Change
Pause is taking part in the My Favourite Voucher Codes July charity poll, and your vote could help them win a donation that will support their life-changing work. Pause is dedicated to improving the lives of women who have had, or are at risk of having, children removed from their care. With your support, they can move closer to their vision of a society where no family experiences the removal of a child more than once. Pause is one of the July charities competing in our charity poll in the hopes of winning 20% of our profits.

What does Pause do?
Every child has the right to a safe, secure and loving home. However, this can’t always happen. Across the UK, many families are caught in intergenerational cycles of care, causing pain and distress to everyone involved.
Pause was founded in 2013 by professionals with frontline experience in child protection, vulnerable adults and family courts. They despaired at seeing women with complex needs have a child taken into care, become pregnant again and have further children removed, with little ever being done to break this cycle.
Pause is a national charity working to improve the lives of women who have had – or are at risk of having – children removed from their care. Their vision is a society where no family experiences the removal of a child more than once.
What services does Pause provide?
Pause works towards its vision in two ways:
- They offer intensive, trauma-informed support to women identified as being at the highest risk of having their children taken into care. Their programmes enable women to take a pause, focus, and prioritise the goals they want to achieve to sustain lasting, positive change in their lives.
- They learn from the women they work with, using their experiences to challenge systems, so they better meet the needs of families at risk of the removal of children into care
What impact does Pause have?
Pause works. After more than ten years of programme delivery, there is a growing body of evidence which demonstrates that Pause is highly effective. Pause has shown that it is possible – with an intensive, relationships-based approach – to support women caught in the traumatic cycle of recurrent removals to create and sustain long-term change. Women working with Pause achieve positive outcomes across multiple areas of their lives, including their mental and physical health, relationships with their children, and growth in both confidence and self-esteem. Crucially, women tell Pause that their work is effective.
“Pause came into my life when I had already made a few attempts on my life… Yet, two years after getting involved with Pause, here I am, alive, writing this, and feeling hopeful. And that is all thanks to Pause. The support, encouragement, empowerment and positivity changed my life… I will always be incredibly grateful to Pause, and everyone that works there; the work they do is life changing.
Without them, I genuinely would not be here today, and it’s thanks to them, I have my hope back” – Pause Graduate
