UK charity Barking Mad Dog Rescue works to save and improve the lives of abandoned dogs in Romania. Every day, they feed over 800 dogs and puppies, and aim to rehome as many of them as possible.
For over 20 years, in Romania, stray dogs are routinely abused and tortured. They are often crowded into public shelters run by the cities, where they will die of hunger, thirst or disease. In 2013, after stray dogs were accused of attacking a young child, a law was passed that meant all dogs living in public shelters were to be killed after 14 days. These dogs are killed by lethal injections and in many cases no care is taken to administer them properly, meaning they sadly die a painful and slow death. In addition, as public shelters are paid to kill these dogs, it has led to an increase in mass capturing and slaughtering of stray dogs.
How Does Barking Mad Dog Rescue Help?
Barking Mad Dog Rescue have shelters in Romania that provide care for around 500 dogs and puppies, many of whom have been victims of abuse, neglect or abandonment. In addition, they provide food, veterinary care and support to two other shelters in the country.
In the UK, the charity has a team of adoption specialists who work across the country with potential adopters and fosterers. Their aim is to rehome as many dogs as possible through this process. For dogs that unfortunately have to remain in shelter, sponsorships are able to provide them with food, vaccinations, medical care and clean pens, ensuring that they are healthy and happy.
Supporting the Charity
It’s through the generosity of their supporters that Barking Mad Dog Rescue are able to carry out their life saving work. The charity pays for all running costs of their shelters in Romania, including food, rent, wages and utilities, as well as veterinary care and supplies for the dogs in their care. In fact, they spend over £3,000 a month on dog food alone!
This July, Barking Mad Dog Rescue are taking part in our charity poll. You can help them continue their mission of giving abandoned dogs a second chance at life by voting for them this month to help them win 20% of our profits.
