Gul is a registered charity providing therapeutic activities in an outdoor setting. Their primary provision is Equine Assisted Therapy, using horses and associated activities to improve wellbeing. The charity also provides outdoor education, apprenticeships, and horticultural skills development. This is all provided as a means to engage with people of all ages who have been overlooked, or do not fit into a mainstream system.
Gul have professional therapists on hand who are experienced in helping adults and young people who suffer from anxiety, stress, addictions, self-harm and poor mental health.
About Gul Outdoor Therapy
Who Uses Gul’s Services?: Currently, the local council, parents, over 50 local schools, colleges and universities, and referral organisations make use of the services Gul has to offer.
Why They Are Needed: Gul offers a unique service that is not available from other providers in the region. The charity does not judge, but they listen and understand. They offer a safe environment for people to explore their thoughts, feelings and difficulties.
What Outcomes Do They Achieve?: Individuals feel an increased sense of confidence and self-esteem, and a considerable reduction in challenging and unhelpful behaviour. In turn, this can enable them to return to mainstream activities.
Gul Outdoor Therapy depends on grant funding in order to be able to offer its specialised services. Currently they require funding for their Equine Assisted Therapy project. The project uses 16 amazing ponies for this specific therapy. The main goal is to improve mental and physical health of young people with learning and behavioural difficulties, as well as more mature people with physical disabilities.
