Help Horses in Need by Voting for HorseWorld in Our Charity Poll

HorseWorld is an equine welfare charity based in Bristol. Founded in 1952, HorseWorld was originally formed to take in retired working horses that were destined for slaughter. Over the years, the need has changed. More horses than ever before are being abandoned, cruelly treated and neglected. HorseWorld rescues horses, ponies and donkeys, nurses them back to health, supports welfare investigations where appropriate, and begins a programme of rehabilitation with each individual animal.

What Does HorseWorld Do?

Once horses are rehabilitated—a process which can take months or even years—they look for a new long-term home with a loaner or fulfill a role within the charity's Discovery Programme. The charity aims to match every horse with the most suitable home in the South West, allowing for regular ongoing visits as part of HorseWorld's commitment to both the rescued animal and the person rehoming them.

The charity also runs its Discovery Programme, which brings rescued, rehabilitated horses together with young people who are typically outside of mainstream education or find it difficult to learn in a formal school setting. Those referred to Discovery can have complex needs ranging from special educational needs to problems surrounding emotional wellbeing and behavioural challenges. Working alongside rescued horses in an outdoor environment gives young people opportunities to excel in a way they may not have experienced in a traditional classroom. Ultimately, this helps them to develop their confidence, communication skills and self-esteem.

How is HorseWorld Funded?

The work of the charity is made possible by donations, on which HorseWorld relies. As well as funding the ongoing care of rescued horses, HorseWorld is currently raising support for its Emergency Response Fund, helping ensure the charity can respond quickly whenever a horse in crisis needs rescuing.
