Jessie May is a charity based in the South West of England, which offers specialise nursing care for children who are suffering from a terminal illness. They are a Children’s Hospice at Home charity, providing care in the patients home, offering not just physical but also emotional support to the child and their family. As a hospice, they support families and children when at their most vulnerable, offering end of life care to children and bereavement support to families in need. They work with the families to make the best memories they can in the precious time they have together.
The nurses at Jessie May have been working with families in Bath, Bristol and Somerset, South Gloucestershire, Swindon and Wiltshire. As well as end of life and hospice care, they offer kids the chance to have fun days out and also cares for children just admitted into hospital.
Caring for a terminally ill child makes relentless demands on parents. Families trust Jessie May Nurses to take on the care of their children for a few hours at a time so they can do the things we all take for granted, spending time with their other children or catching up on household chores.
The work of Jessie May nurses extends to helping the entire family, offering practical help and emotional reassurance. Many parent's decide to care for their child at home during their last days of life, and Jessie May nurses are on hand to provide any support they can. After the child's death, they also provide bereavement support for up to 5 years.
Jessie May fundraises tirelessly to improve, increase, and expand the service we offer in order to help as many families as possible and keep the service free of charge. It’s part of their mission to make sure no family who needs their service is ever turned away.
